Abstract:
A television receiving device may include a tuner configured to selectively tune a television channel from a first plurality of television channels received from a primary television programming source and a second plurality received from a television programming source other than the primary source, wherein the second plurality is received as over-the-air terrestrial television signals. The device may further include a processor configured to set the tuner to receive the second plurality based on location information of the device and location information of a plurality of over-the-air terrestrial antennas. A system for receiving television signals may include a processor configured to set a television receiving device to receive over-the-air television signals from select over-the-air terrestrial antennas, and to determine the select over-the-air terrestrial antennas based on location information of one of the television receiving device and an antenna device and location information of the plurality of over-the-air terrestrial antennas.
Abstract:
Various embodiments facilitate sharing program content between computing devices that utilize different media formats. In one embodiment, a media format transcoder facilitates content sharing between a receiving device, such as a set-top box, and a content player, the receiving device providing a program as data formatted in a first media format. The media format transcoder obtains from the receiving device the data formatted in the first media format, transcodes the received data into data formatted in a second media format that is compatible with the content player, and causes the content player to present the program by transmitting the transcoded data to the content player. This abstract is provided to comply with rules requiring an abstract, and it is submitted with the intention that it will not be used to interpret or limit the scope or meaning of the claims.
Abstract:
Embodiments discussed herein are directed to an apparatus and method for relaying user input commands by a receiver to other devices connected to or in communication with the receiver. In one embodiment, a receiver receives one or more commands from a user input device and determines if the command is intended for the receiver or for a device in communication with the receiver. Based on this determination, the receiver may either execute the command or relay the command to a device that is attached or otherwise in communication with the receiver
Abstract:
Program recording systems and methods are operable to adjust recording times of a program of interest in response to an occurrence of an interrupting program that alters the scheduled recording times of the program of interest. An exemplary embodiment receives an unscheduled program flag (UPF) corresponding to an occurrence of an unscheduled program; adjusts at least one of a scheduled recording start time associated with the program of interest to an updated record start time and a scheduled recording end time associated with the program of interest to an updated record end time in response to receiving the UPF; and records the program of interest based upon at least one of the updated record start time and the updated record end time.
Abstract:
A method for reconfiguring an entertainment system to restore audio/video content to a user is presented. In the method, a request to reconfigure the entertainment system is received at a first component of the entertainment system. In response to the request, an indication of a configuration command for a second component of the entertainment system is transmitted from the first component to a remote control device. In response to receiving the indication of the configuration command at the remote control device, the configuration command is transmitted from the remote control device to the second component.
Abstract:
Antenna systems include adjustment mechanisms to adjust the position of dish antennas. The adjustment mechanism includes a clip, a bracket, and a cam mechanism. The clip is fixedly coupled to and projects outwardly from a mast. The bracket is pivotally coupled to the mast and is between the stationary clip and cam mechanism. The cam mechanism is pivotally coupled to the clip and positioned to rotate the bracket and the dish antenna as the cam mechanism rotates. The clip is made of a lightweight material to reduce the overall weight of the antenna system to enhance performance.
Abstract:
Various embodiments of apparatus, systems and/or methods are described for providing user generated content (212) relating to a subject, and collecting polling data (208) relating to the subject, on multiple disparate communication devices (106, 110, 114). User generated content is received from one or more disparate communication devices and provided for presentation on at least one of the communication devices. Polling data is also received from at least one of the end-users (104, 108, 112) of the communication devices viewing the user generated content, and tabulated to generate poll results (214) displayable on the communication devices.
Abstract:
Described herein are systems and methods for hardware enforcement of hardware functionality in a television receiver. An activation message containing an activation code for a specific hardware component within the television receiver can be transmitted from a television service provider system to a television receiver having an associated smart card. The smart card can decrypt the activation message, security check the activation message, confirm the activation message is intended for the television receiver, encrypt the activation message with a local key, and transmit the activation message to a security processor on the television receiver. The security processor can decrypt the activation message, security check the activation message to ensure it is from the smart card and has not been tampered with, and enable the hardware component within the television receiver based on the activation code within the activation message.
Abstract:
Described herein are systems and methods for providing a targeted and secure software image or other data to a television receiver. The data item can be provided to the smart card through a television service provider distribution system in blocks of data that are small enough to be processed by the smart card. For each block of data, the smart card can decrypt the block of data with a global network key, generate a partial hash representing the block of data, update a full hash with the partial hash, encrypt the block of data with a dynamically generated item key, and transmit the encrypted block of data to the television receiver. Once complete, the smart card can security check the software image including an integrity check using the full hash. If the security check passes, the smart card can transmit the dynamically generated item key to the television receiver.
Abstract:
An RF antenna arrangement has the same or slightly larger footprint as the RF shield for radio chips on a printed circuit board. The apparatus includes a printed circuit board, a digital processor, a radio chip(s), a radio frequency shield, a lid, and an RF antenna arrangement(s). The lid has the same or slightly larger footprint as the RF shield, which enables the lid to fit on the RF shield. The RF antenna is formed as an integral part of the lid. The apparatus also includes an RF transmission coaxial cable(s) having a first end physically and electrically connected to the RF antenna arrangement(s) and the surface of the lid, and a second end electrically coupled to an RF connector. By forming the antenna arrangement(s) from the lid, this invention solves the space constraint problems of antenna placements for wireless device applications. Additionally, this invention is cost-effective and simple to manufacture.
