A variable-speed linkage system forming an endless conveyer comprises longitudinally-extending first and second guides 12, 14, having a longitudinally-varying lateral spacing therebetween, a variable-speed linkage movable longitudinally along the guides at a varying speed inversely related to the lateral spacing between the guides and including links 32 having guided ends respectively carrying guide followers 42 in engagement with the first guide 12, and links 34 having guided ends respectively carrying guide followers 44 in engagement with the guide 14, the links 32 having pivoted ends respectively pivotally connected to the links 34 at points 46, and the links 34 having pivoted ends respectively pivotally connected to the links 32 at points 48. Loads are connected to the system by means of members 50.

A gangway may pivot about a vertical axis 20 on wheels 42 supported by a structure 14, driven by a motor 44, and a tunnel portion 32 may pivot about a horizontal transverse axis 34 by operating a telescopic structure 50 pivoted at 54 and extended by a motor 52. The structure 14 includes a frame 36 on either side of the tunnel 32, which frame may pivot about an axis 38 which may coincide with the axis 34. An outer section 62 pivoted at 64 to the tunnel 32 and to struts 66 may be provided with automatic levelling means 82, Fig. 3 (not shown), controlling the structure 50, and with a door 84 and a retractable stairway 88.

[Also in Division G1] The outer end 12 of a gangway is supported by a truck 20 which carries an electric motor 24 by means of which the gangway may be raised or lowered. Control means 30 are provided so that the gangway follows the vertical movements of the aircraft fuselage 14 against which it abuts. The control means 30 comprise a control arm 32 pivoted at 34 about an arm transverse to the gangway, and a sensing roller 38 rotatably mounted on a shaft 42 at one end of the control arm. As the fuselage 14 moves vertically relative to the gangway, the sensing roller, whose periphery is preferably covered with an elastomeric material 40, rotates on the shaft 42, causing an arm 46 in a switch 44 to operate the electric motor 24 either through circuit 48 or circuit 50 and so raise or lower the gangway. The control means can be retracted by a crank 58 which may be locked in the retracted position.

A telescoping gangway 10 comprises telescopically related inner, intermediate and outer tubular sections 18, 20, 22 respectively. The gangway is extended or contracted by the cable and pulley system shown in Fig. 4. The cable 38 is fixed at 40 to the inner section 18, and passes by way of transfer pulleys 42 mounted on the intermediate section 20, around pulley 44 mounted on the intermediate section and is anchored at 46 to the outer section 22. From the anchor point 46 the cable 38 passes around pulley 48 mounted on the intermediate section 20 and is anchored at 50 to the inner section 18. Thus, relative to the inner section 18, the outer section 22 always moves at twice the speed of the intermediate section. A simplified pulley system, Fig. 3 (not shown) is used to pay out the power lines to the truck 30 by which the gangway is extended and contracted.

Abstract: 910,056. Blast deflector fences. STANRAY CORPORATION. Nov. 21, 1960, No. 39921/60. Class 51 (2). A blast deflector and silencing fence for jet engines comprises inclined, perforated, prefabricated units arranged back-to-back so that part of the blast is diverted upwardly and part passes through the perforations, the units being made of single sheets 16 of metal having flanges 18 on two opposite sides and another base flange 28 by which the fence may be weighted or anchored to the ground. Each unit is formed with perforations 30 1 and may be bent along lines 24 and 26 as shown in Fig. 2 or may be of arcuate form, Fig. 4 (not shown). In a modification, Fig. 11, a single fence is supported by struts 51 and 52 secured to angle iron shoes 56. A baffle screen 57 is fixed at an angle to the fence on arms 58 passing through slots 60 and attached at 59 to the strut 51. The perforations here are limited to a few near the base of each unit. The baffle screen may be applied to a back-to-back unit, Fig. 13 (not shown), or may be omitted, Fig. 9 (not shown). The aggregate area of the perforations may reach up to 60% of the area of each unit.
