Abstract:
The present invention provides a construction system for connecting bamboo segments or poles together, where the segments or poles have non-uniform diameters. The system includes elbow connectors, sleeve connectors, T-shaped connectors and six cavity connectors. Also, part of the connectors include connector segments including an opening defined by a plurality of opposingly located arms separated by one or more channels, and at least one hoop-compression clamp adapted to be positioned around the arms. The arms and hoop-compression clamp cooperate to compress the arms against the bamboo segment to secure bamboo segment within the connector opening.
Abstract:
Novel nano-sized materials and methods for making the same are described. The novel nano-sized materials are suitable for use as catalytic supports and, more specifically, can be decorated with one or more catalytic materials so as to form suitable catalysts for DLFC fuel cells utilizing alkaline media. The present disclosure also provides a small, portable, power supply system that incorporates catalysts utilizing the decorated nano-sized materials described herein.
Abstract:
An optimization technique for use with radiation therapy planning that combines stochastic optimization techniques such as Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) with deterministic techniques to solve for optimal and reliable locations for delivery of radiation doses to a targeted tumor while minimizing the radiation dose experienced by the surrounding critical structures such as normal tissues and organs.
Abstract:
This disclosure describes techniques for generating physically unclonable functions (PUF) from non-volatile memory cells. The PUFs leverage resistance variations in non-volatile memory cells. Resistance variations in array of non-volatile memory cells may be produce a bitstring during an enrollment process. The bitstring may be stored in the non-volatile memory array. Regeneration may include retrieving the bitstring from the non-volatile memory array.
Abstract:
This disclosure describes modular miRNA regulator molecules and methods of using modular miRNA regulator molecules. Generally, the modular miRNA regulator molecules include a recognition module and an inhibition module. Generally, the recognition module includes a polynucleotide in which at least a portion of the polynucleotide recognizes at least a portion of a preselected pre-miRNA. Generally, the inhibition module includes a moiety that inhibits nuclease processing of the preselected pre-RNA to a mature RNA.
Abstract:
The disclosure describes a method for sequencing long portions of DNA sequence by assembling a plurality of shorter polynucleotide reads. Generally, The method includes annealing a plurality of primers to a denatured DNA molecule, appending a barcode polynucleotide to the 5' end of the primer, subjecting the DNA molecules to a plurality of cycles of (1) pooling, (2) dividing, and (3) appending a barcode polynucleotide to the 5' end of the primer, sequencing the barcode polynucleotides and the genomic DNA, and assembling the short read polynucleotide sequences having identical barcode polynucleotides.
Abstract:
A porous metal-oxide composite particle suitable for use as a oxygen reduction reaction or oxygen evolution reaction catalyst and sacrificial support based methods for making the same.
Abstract:
An inexpensive, easy-to-use pneumatic pressure device includes a flexible panel of unimpregnated and substantially inelastic cloth or other material having a shape for wrapping around or pulling over a patient's particular body part, such as abdomen or leg. The panel includes releasable fastening strips for securing the wrapped panel in place around the patient's body part and further includes a pocket with an access opening through which a deflated bladder is placed in the pocket and subsequently inflated for controlled pressure application to the wrapped body part. The abdominal bladder can be configured using an inflatable ball in which case the pocket is not necessary, and a covering over the ball is used that resists the outward pressure of the ball when inflated. Multiple panels forming a treatment kit can used to apply controlled pressure to the abdomen and to each leg of the patient.
Abstract:
A method of preparation of metal-chalcogen-nitrogen-carbon (M-Ch-N-C) catalytic material utilizing a sacrificial support approach and using inexpensive and readily available precursors is described. Furthermore, the catalytic materials synthesized using the disclosed methods include multiple types of active sites.
