Abstract:
Iron-based metallurgical powder compositions are produced by mixing iron-based powder with an improved binder/lubricant that comprises dibasic organic acid and one or more additional components such as solid polyethers, liquid polyethers, and acrylic resin. These novel binder/lubricants impart one or more enhanced green properties to the powder compositions and reduce the ejection force required to remove the compositions from molds and dies.
Abstract:
A composite, multilayer thin film solid lubricant structure having multiple thin film layers of solid lubricant interleaved by thin film interlayers which interrupt propagation of growth defects in the deposition process.
Abstract:
A metal-free lubricant composition for use in threaded tube and pipe connections includes graphite and a substantially nonabrasive, friction increasing adjusting component, both dispersed in a lubricant base material in which a polyalkylene is dissolved, with the graphite being present in an amount effect to decrease a coefficient of friction of said composition, the friction increasing adjusting component being present in an amount effective to increase the coefficient of friction of the composition, and the polyalkylene being present in an amount effective to enhance formation of graphite flakes from graphite particles upon application of pressure. The lubricant composition can provide corrosion resistance as well as similar or superior lubricating properties in comparison to conventional metal-containing grease compositions.
Abstract:
This invention pertains to a novel lubricant composition which possess high and positive friction characteristics. A high, positive friction lubricant composition comprising: (a) at least 20% by weight of a polymer media; (b) at least 5% by weight of a solid lubricant; and (c) at least 5% by weight of a powderized solid mineral friction modifier.
Abstract:
A lubricant composition for use in threaded tube and pipe connections comprises from 10 to 70% by weight of pure, crystalline, graphite and from 0.1% to 10% by weight (calculated of graphite) of a special additive in the form of strongly polarizable or ionizable organic compounds like e.g. amines, amine salts, metal-amine complexes, combinations of amines with polymers, polymeric amines, ammonium compounds, alkylsulphates, organic phosphates, phosphonates and sulphonates. The balance is formed by a supporting vehicle such as an oil or grease. In this composition, the performance characteristics of the graphite have been improved by the special edditive such that it can be used for lubricating and sealing threaded tube and pipe connections under conditions of extreme pressure.

Compositions for coating steel wire to facilitate the cold drawing thereof comprising:A. from about 50 to about 99.9% by weight of K.sub.2 SO.sub.4 ;B. from about 0 to about 49.99% by weight of K.sub.2 B.sub.4 O.sub.7 and/or KBO.sub.2 ; andC. from about 0.01 to about 5% by weight of an ammonium and/or a potassium soap;wherein up to 50% by weight of the total potassium plus ammonium ions in the composition can be replaced by sodium ions. These compositions form coatings which have good crystalline structure and drawability with low hygroscopicity.

The apparatus to put the process of the invention into practice comprises a silo 1 to dispense fat (oil), a duct 2 to feed in lime and optionally inert additives, a mixer 3 provided with a stirrer, at least a charging pot 4, a pocket vessel 5, a hopper provided with a distribution blade 6, a conveyor belt 7 continuously operating internally of the baking furnace, a baking furnace 8, a grid-type conveyor belt 9, a first crusher 10 and a mill 11. The powder lubricant obtained by said continuous process also has the advantage of exhibiting a better morphological appearance, more hardness and improved adhesion to the substrate to be lubricated.
Abstract:
Agent for the pickling of and as an antioxidant for workpieces made of iron and steel in the case of when they are subjected to non-cutting, hot transformation. The agent is used in dry form. The agent contains: (a) 20 to 80 percent by weight of a pickling-effective compound, such as, sodium metaborate; (b) 1 to 80 percent by weight of a component, such as, graphite; and (c) zero to 79 percent by weight of at least one substance selected from group (d), (e) and/or (f). Zero to 35 percent by weight of group (d), such as, coke, can be used as substance (c) and, for example, act as antioxidants. Zero to 50 percent by weight of group (e), such as, sodium chloride, can be used as substance (c), and control the physical characteristics. Zero to 5 percent by weight of group (f), such as, ammonium chloride, can be used as substance (c) and, for example, act on the reduction of the oxides of group (a).
Abstract:
A method of lubricating a railroad track comprising the steps of dispersing together a mixture of at least 30% by weight of powdered graphite having an average particle size of not larger than 50 microns, and an oil based carrier to yield a viscosity of approximately 25,000 centipoise at standard temperature and pressure; applying said dispersion to a railroad track and pressure fixing to form a film like coating thereon.
