Abstract:
An arborist's climbing rope in which an eye splice having a splice tuck can be formed at one end includes in one embodiment a core of polypropylene, a first braided tubular sheath of nylon disposed about the core and a second braided tubular sheath of a polyester disposed about the first braided tubular sheath, the core cross-sectional diameter being in the range of 1 to 10% of the total cross-sectional diameter of the arborist's climbing rope. In forming the eye splice a portion of the core is intentionally removed near the eye splice to form a space within the first tubular sheath where the core has been removed and the splice tuck is buried in and substantially completely fills the space within the first tubular sheath where the core has been intentionally removed.
Abstract:
A rope is disclosed that is firm for climbing purposes and in which the end of the rope can be spliced. The rope includes a core of a plurality of strands; a first braided tubular sheath disposed about the core; and a second braided tubular sheath disposed about the first braided tubular sheath. The plurality of strands fill at least a length of a center void formed in the first braided tubular sheath. The plurality of core strands are formed in an un-braided manner in at least one of twisted and non-twisted strands. At the splice the splice tucks fill the center void while the core strands fill only center void outside of the splice.

A fiber cable for helicopter rescue winches includes a plurality of load-bearing synthetic-fiber strands braided with one another, at least one electrically conductive insert, and a wear indicator providing a visual check of a state of the fiber cable.
Abstract:
A high strength surgical material with improved tie down characteristics and tissue compliance formed of ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) yarns, the suture being coated with arginine-glycine-aspartate (RGD) peptide. The suture has exceptional strength, is ideally suited for most orthopedic procedures, and can be attached to a suture anchor or a curved needle.
Abstract:
A rope comprising a plurality of bundle groups, each of said bundle groups having a periphery and comprising a plurality of high strength fibers, at least one low coefficient of friction fiber disposed around at least a portion of the periphery of at least one of the bundle groups.
Abstract:
Endless rope containing primary strands, the primary strands containing laid-up secondary strands, the laid-up secondary strands containing rope yarns, wherein the primary strands have been laid up from 3, 4 or 6 secondary strands, wherein the rope contains a splice in at least every primary strand and wherein the rope preferably has been laid up from 3, 4 or (1+6) primary strands or, alternatively, has been braided from 8 or 12 primary strands.
Abstract:
This invention teaches a rope that can be electrified. The rope is comprised of an outer sheath and an inner core. The outer sheath includes non-conductive elements braided with one or more conductive elements. The conductive elements are wound in a parallel helical pattern and do not touch each other. The inner core is a braid comprising non-conductive and conductive elements. In both cores, the conductive elements comprise one or more metal strands and the non-conductive elements comprise one or more monofilaments of synthetic or natural fibres. Should a breakage occur in the conductive elements of the outer sheath, the conductive elements of the inner core provide conductivity across the breakage and throughout the length of the rope by intermittently contacting the conductive elements of the outer sheath. An optional coloured tracer can be braided into the outer sheath to provide better visibility since the non-conductive elements are preferably a neutral colour, such as white.
Abstract:
A flexible member, comprising: an inner core member, comprising a plurality of strands of liquid crystal polymers cooperating with each other to define and provide the inner core member; an outer sheath disposed about the inner core member, the outer sheath defining an inner opening for receiving the inner core member therein, the inner core member being slidably received within the outer sheath, wherein the flexible member is capable of being disposed about a curved surface, wherein a lubricant is disposed upon an exterior surface of the outer sheath and the outer sheath further comprises an end-fitting member disposed about a portion of the flexible connector, the portion of the flexible connector comprising an engagement surface for securement of the end fitting thereto.
Abstract:
A light weight, strong and flexible, braided electrical fence rope, for fences to contain livestock and keep unwanted animals out, combines in its outer braided jacket electrically conductive elements with high strength non-conductive elements in a double helix configuration. The outer braided jacket will preferably surround an inner core of non-conductive high strength elements. The high strength non-conductive elements and the physical properties of the braided rope construction provide inherent strength and flexibility properties to the fence rope. The conductive elements in the outer braided jacket are selected to provide an effective electric shock when contacted by an animal. This electric fence rope combines barrier strength and psychological deterrence to both domestic and wild animals.
Abstract:
A fly fishing line and a method for the manufacture of the line is described. The line comprises a core and an outer coating disposed around the core, the coating comprising polyvinyl chloride polymer, polytetrafluoroethylene and optionally polyacrylate derived from the polymerization of a polyfunctional polymerizable acrylate monomer. The method comprises coating a core with a plastisol comprising a polyvinyl chloride resin polytetrafluoroethylene, and optionally one or more of the foregoing monomers; exposing the plastisol to conditions providing formation of a polymer derived from the polyvinyl chloride resin and having polytetrafluoroethylene dispersed throughout the polymer.
