Abstract: The invention pertains to the production of cables and can be used for reinforcing single-block constructions and other articles made of concrete. The purpose of the invention is to create a self-rectifying reinforcing member. The reinforcement cable comprises a central wire and layer-forming wires spirally wound around the same and having a periodical profile. A periodical profile is applied on the outer section of the surface of the layer-forming wires and is made in the form of inclined protrusions above the generatrix of the crimped surface of the cable. The sections of the surface of the layer-forming wires in contact with other wires are made in the form of spirally-arranged planar flats.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a wire rope having a blackened finish designed for theatrical productions. The wire rope includes a plurality of strands that have a closed spiral arrangement with each other and are compacted. Each strand includes a center wire spirally surrounded by a plurality of inner wires that are spirally surrounded by a plurality of outer wires so that the outer wires completely encompass the inner wires. The center wire and the inner wires are made from a galvanized material and coated with a lubricant. The outer wires are made from a non-coated steel material. Each strand is compacted so the outer wires create a tight mechanical seal to protect the inner wires. The blackened finish on the wire rope is due to a black oxide coating treatment and provides for low visibility of the wire rope during theatrical performances.

Since the cross sectional length of the steel cord 10 is greater than the minimum cross sectional length, interstices A are maintained between sheath filaments 14 under the tension and pressure p of the surrounding rubber 16 applied to the steel cord 10 during vulcanization. Rubber 16 penetrates into the steel cord 10 through the interstices A, and sufficiently adhere to core filaments 12 to achieve high rubber penetration.

Abstract: A wire rope is provided which has an independent wire rope core (IWRC) covered by a plastic jacket. Outer strands are laid on this plastic jacket and wormings or spacers extend from the plastic jacket in between the outer strands to form gaps between the outer strands. Another jacket is provided over the outer strands which also fills the gaps between the outer strands. Both the IWRC and the outer strands are preferably lubricated. A method is also disclosed for manufacturing such wire rope.

Abstract: Electrical conductors according to the invention include conductors made from a plurality of strands twisted around a central conductor, where the strands are fused to the central conductor but not to each other. According to a preferred embodiment, the central conductor is coated with a coating of a first material which may be melted to fuse the central conductor to the outer strands. In another preferred embodiment, the outer strands are also coated with a second conductive material which forms a eutectic mixture with the coating on the central conductor when heated to a temperature below the melting points of the first and second conductive materials. Alternate embodiments of the invention provide a eutectic mixture by choice of strand and central conductor material and/or coating. If desired, the conductor is deformed prior to melting the coating(s) such as by drawing or swaging to form a conductor with a substantially circular cross section or by rolling or drawing to form a conductor with a substantially rectangular cross section. In still another embodiment, the conductor is formed as a coil prior to melting the coating(s). The conductors of the invention exhibit enhanced electrical and physical characteristics and are particularly well suited for use in conducting VHF and UHF signals and for making coils.

Abstract: Strands and wire ropes composed of materials such as high carbon steels and stainless steels can be provided in a compacted, mechanically stress relieved and thermally stress relieved condition. The wires are compacted during stranding to form the individual strands of the wire ropes. The wires can be thermally stress relieved prior to stranding to remove tensile residual stresses. Compaction produces a compressive residual stress state in the strands which increases fatigue resistance. The strands can be thermally stress relieved subsequent to closing. The wires and strands can be heated using a process such as induction heating. The wire ropes can be torque balanced or rotation resistant. The wire ropes have high strength, a high strength-to-weight ratio and enhanced fatigue life. Stainless steel wire ropes also provide corrosion resistance.
