Abstract:
A paving element includes upper and lower surfaces and one or more drainage channels extending through the paving element between the upper and lower surfaces. The drainage channels include a substantially concave or cupule shaped upper portion, provided on the upper surface of the paving element, and a channel from the concave portion through to the lower surface of the bottom surface of the paving element. The drainage channels can be complete, when provided in the interior of the paving element, or partial, when provided along the sides or perimeter of the paving element. The partial channels are completed when the paving element is placed adjacent another paving element when forming a pavement. The drainage channels are adapted to facilitate the cleaning process of the channels.
Abstract:
A set of grass pavers for creating a paver arrangement is provided. Each grass pavers comprises intersecting longitudinal members and transverse members forming an inner opening for growing grass. Pairs of adjacent member extremities form partial openings configured to form complete openings when a 5 grass paver is assembled with adjacent grass pavers. The longitudinal members and/or the transverse members have recessed portion(s) having an upper face extending below the exposed top face of the unitary body. The recessed portions are hidden by grass when the grass paver is installed and in use in the paver arrangement. The grass paver have an overall surface area delimited by the 10 extremities of the longitudinal and transverse members, and a void surface area corresponding to a sum of the inner opening area and the partial opening areas. The void ratio, defined as the void surface area over the overall area, is greater than 50%.

A paving system is disclosed that includes a first paving stone having a virtual perimeter outline and a plurality of first physical sides, the virtual perimeter outline having a plurality of segments, where each segment of the plurality of segments corresponds to two or more of the first physical sides, and wherein any vertex between two adjacent segments is separated from any vertex between two adjacent first physical sides by a predetermined distance. A second paving stone having the virtual perimeter outline and a plurality of second physical sides, where each segment of the plurality of segments corresponds to two or more of the second physical sides, and wherein any vertex between two adjacent segments is separated from any vertex between two adjacent second physical sides by a predetermined distance. The plurality of first physical sides is different from the plurality of second physical sides.

An irregular, tessellated building unit comprises x primary elements, wherein x is an integer equal to or greater than 1. The primary element is a rotational tessellation having a plural pairs of sides extending in a generally radial direction from plural vertices, respectively. In each pair, the two sides are rotationally spaced by an angle that is divided evenly into 360 degrees. Preferably, all of the sides are irregularly shaped, but one or more sides could be wholly or partially straight. Optionally, spacers are provided on the sides of each unit. A wide variety of units may be constructed having different numbers and arrangements of primary elements. As all the units are combinations of primary elements, they readily mate with each other. A surface covering comprises a multiplicity of units assembled to form a continuous surface without overlap between units and without substantial gaps between units. A structure, such as a wall or column can be formed of building units of the invention. Because of the irregular side configurations, and different sizes and shapes of individual units, the resulting surface or structure has a natural, non-repeating pattern appearance. Optionally, minor surface and edges variations are made from unit to unit to further enhance the natural appearance of the surface covering or structure.
