The invention relates to an axial piston engine comprising an inclined disc (13), sliding shoes (9, 10) with step bearings (25), as well as a lower retainer ring (18) and a ring (16) placed on the motor shaft (1) and having a curved outer surface in contact with the inner surface of the lower retainer ring (18). The bearings (19-21) of the lower retainer ring (18) are provided with a lubricant agent, at least in the contact region with the motor shaft (1).

A single-headed piston type swash-plate-operated refrigerant compressor is provided with a swash plate mounted on a rotatable drive shaft and having front and rear opposite surfaces, single headed pistons arranged on the rear side of the swash plate to reciprocate in respective cylinder bores, and front and rear shoes to be held in slide-contact with the peripheral parts of the front and rear surfaces of the swash plate to engage a tail end part of each of the single headed pistons with the swash plate in which the front and rear surfaces of the swash plate are provided with respective uppermost layers having physical surface properties different from one another. A front uppermost and a rear uppermost layer of the swash plate are formed of a sprayed coating of, for example, a copper-base material and the rear uppermost layer is coated by a solid lubricant layer containing a solid lubricant, such as molybdenum disulfide, at least in a part of the solid lubricant. The thickness of the solid lubricant layer is measured and controlled by using the surface of the front layer as a reference plane.

In order to increase the anti-seizing properties of a swash plate which is a sliding component of a swash plate type compressor, a copper alloy is sprayed onto the swash plate and the following texture/composition controls are performed as required: (a) to produce a mixed texture of a dissolved texture into which atomized bronze powder is dissolved during spraying and an atomized texture into which the same bronze powder is not dissolved, (b) to add no or a small amount of Pb to the dissolved texture, (c) to add Sn, P, Al, Ag, Si, Mn, Cr, Ni, Zn, Pb and/or Bi to copper, (d) to add a hard material to a copper alloy, and (e) to form an intermediate layer comprising an Ni alloy or the like between the sprayed layer and a substrate.

A sealed-type compressor used with HFC refrigerant. The sealed-type compressor houses a motor and compression machinery in a sealed case. The compression machinery includes at least a pair of sliding members wherein one sliding member having aluminum as its main body and having its surface alumite treated and the other sliding member having a metal material. The compressor includes an at least quadrivalent ester oil for the refrigerating machine oil which lubricates the sliding members.

In order to enhance the seizure resistance of a swash plate, which is the sliding part of a swash-plate type compressor, copper alloy is flame-sprayed on the swash plate. Depending upon the necessity, the following control of structure/composition: (a) a mixed structure is provided such that atomized bronze powder, which is melted during flame spraying, and an unmelted atomized structure are mixed; (b) Pb is not contained or contained slightly in the melted structure: (c) Sn, P, Al, Ag, Si, Mn, Cr, Ni, Zn, Pb and/or Bi is added to the copper; (d) hard matters are added to copper alloy; and, (e) an intermediate layer of Ni or the like is formed between the flame-sprayed layer and the substrate, is carried out.

An apparatus for supercritical fluid extraction incorporates a removable extraction cartridge (30) which in operation has insignificant pressure difference between its inside and outside walls. Because of the low pressure difference, the extraction cartridge (30) need not have the strength to withstand significant pressure and can be made out of molded plastic for disposable use as well as stainless steel and machined plastic for reusability. The extraction cartridge (30) can be removed and opened for sample access without the use of tools. The outside of the cartridge can be purged after it is installed in a heated high pressure vessel to remove contamination from its exterior.
