Abstract:
A mobile device for receiving supplementary information transmitted with a radio station signal, said mobile device comprising: means for scanning a spectrum of frequencies; means for detecting a plurality of radio stations broadcast within said spectrum of frequencies; means for decoding, for each of a plurality of detected radio stations, at least one piece of supplementary information broadcast in conjunction with the plurality of radio stations; means for inputting a search criterion; means for generating a set of radio stations whose supplementary information matches said search criterion; and means for selecting one of the set of radio stations whose supplementary information matches said search criterion.
Abstract:
A diversity receiver includes first and second reception circuits using a superheterodyne principle. At stationary reception, reception of the audio signals and the data employing a phase diversity reception system is performed such that the signals received by the first reception antenna are supplied to the first reception circuit, the signals received by the second reception antenna are supplied to the second reception circuit, and phases of first and second intermediate-frequency signals are controlled and the first and second intermediate-frequency signals are added. At reception-frequency search, reception of the audio signals employing an antenna-switching diversity reception system is performed such that the signals received by at least one of the first and second antennas are supplied to the first reception circuit and reception of the data and the reception-frequency search are performed, and the signals received by the first and second antennas are supplied to the second reception circuit.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for operating a radio reception system, which comprises a plurality of receivers assigned to a common output device, in which one of the receivers is designated as audio receiver and is tuned to a frequency of a radio transmitter, and outputs a signal received from the transmitter to the output device. At least one second receiver is designated as search receiver, and continuously searches its own reception frequency band for a frequency of the same transmitter. The system changes to a frequency of this transmitter, which was found by the search receiver, if the quality of the signal received by the audio receiver falls below a certain limit.
Abstract:
A radio frequency receiver for receiving supplementary data transmitted with a radio station signal, said supplementary data comprising one or more information word fields containing supplementary data transmitted with the radio station signal, said receiver comprising: a host processor for processing said supplementary data; a supplementary data demodulator and decoder for demodulating and decoding a received radio signal to generate a stream of bits representing one or more information word fields; a information word type memory for storing one or more information word type fields; detection circuitry arranged to receive and compare the information word type field decoded by the supplementary data decoder with one or more information word type fields stored in the information word type memory, and to provide a matched condition signal in response to a match between one or more decoded information word type fields and one or more of said corresponding stored information word types fields, and wherein the receiver is arranged to, in response to the matched condition signal, cause the corresponding supplementary data to be processed by means of the host processor.
Abstract:
A broadcast response system provides, e.g., a radio broadcast listener with the ability to obtain media content such as music or speech while listening to the radio. The user can respond to items in the radio broadcast such as advertisements, fund raising drives, or interactive listener polls during the broadcast. Data such as song title and artist, author or publisher and the IP address for the location where the digital version of the content is stored, can be transmitted using, e.g., the RBDS/RDS data stream. A reference number representing song title and artist, author or publisher and the IP address for the location where the digital version of the content is stored can also be employed for ease of implementation. This reference number can reside in a lookup table to be accessed by broadcast response server.
Abstract:
A communication system for sending data between a multimedia player and a nearby receiver is described. In the described embodiment, the multimedia player includes a multimedia data file processor unit arranged to process a multimedia data file and a data transmission unit coupled to the multimedia data file processor unit arranged to concurrently transmit selected portions of the processed multimedia data file. The system also includes a nearby receiver unit capable of receiving the transmitted selected portions of the processed multimedia data file.
Abstract:
A system for providing enhanced radio content to a remote user is disclosed. The system includes at least one input that receives non-radio input; and, at least one output interconnected to the at least one input via a hub, wherein the at least one output receives the enhanced radio content via the hub after at least one manipulation of the non-radio input by the hub to form the enhanced radio content, wherein the at least one manipulation is in accordance with the at least one non-radio input.

Abstract:
A method of masking interruptions in the playback of received radio signals is provided, in which lengthy interruptions are allowed only when modulation of the radio broadcast program currently being received is recognized as speech, and a modulation pause in the received radio signal is detected. This method permits essentially complete masking of lengthy interruptions in playback or making them inaudible, in which these interruptions are necessary, e.g., for analysis/testing for a transmission frequency of transmitted RDS information to be used as an alternative to a transmission frequency currently being received.
