    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide an ATM cell re-arrangement device which allows cells from different flows to simultaneously exist in a node. CONSTITUTION: The ATM cell re-arrangement device in an optical ATM switching node is connected to each input line Fe of the node and includes a means RIC which discriminates the start of a cell, a means VE which calculates a time shift between a cell and a reference time and generates an error signal ER dependent upon this time difference, and a means LR which is driven by the error signal ER and compensates the time difference. The time difference compensation means LR includes a logarithmic-functional optical delay line, and his delay line is connected to the upstream side of the means RIC, which discriminates the start of a cell, and the means VE which calculate the time difference.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To remove the inconvenience caused by free-space propagation of radiation to be stabilized, by a method wherein the radiation emitted by a laser is brought into interaction with a gas while it is led along an optical waveguide and the optical waveguide creates an evanescent field wherein the radiation passes through an environment including the gas and propagates outside the waveguide. CONSTITUTION: A signal from a semiconductor laser 1 is sent to a fiber stub 2, passed through a power splitter device 3 and divided thereby in two. A part for stabilization is sent to an optical phase modulator 4 driven by a high-frequency signal supplied by a generator 5. The phase-modulated signal is collected by a fiber 6 being an optical waveguide a considerable part of the length of which passes inside a cell 7 filled with a gas having an absorption line usable for stabilization of the wavelength of the light source 1. The fiber 6 enters the cell 7 through an aperture and ends on a photodetector 8 outside the cell 7 and an output thereof is connected to a mixer 9 receiving the signal from the generator 5.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To reduce the number of components to be sometimes changed so as to secure electric performance as the result of vibration. CONSTITUTION: This ortho mode converter between a circular waveguide WS and a coaxial cable is composed of the part of the circular waveguide WS and two probes PR1 and PR2 intruding it and externally connected to a coaxial connector. The probe PR2 arranged adjacently to the input opening of the waveguide is tuned by a screw and a metallic plate LS belonging to the same axis plane and the other probe PR1 is tuned by the screw and a circular disk TS adjacent to the waveguide. The shape of the plate and the probe is the one for enabling best connection between an optical guide and a coaxial line over a wide operation band (10% of a center frequency).

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To easily connect optical waveguides to provide a large radiation area by an inexpensive method, and moreover without relying on those skilled in the art. CONSTITUTION: This semiconductor laser 12 forms a grating 29 for reflecting light for a fixed time in a horizontal direction to an active layer 24 on the surface of a layer which is adjacent the active layer 24. Using this method, a light beam is radiated from a face parallel to the layer. The laser can be connected to an optical guide, formed on a board 12 to which a laser 21 can be fixed, and a grating 13 is formed which is capable of rotating the beam radiated from the laser 21 by required angle for feeding the beam radiation to the waveguide.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To extend a spectrum reduced compared to a polarization switching while a polarization diversity restores the half of transmitted power by continuously changing the polarized state of a modulation carrier at least in one code period prior to the transmission of the modulation carrier to a fiber. CONSTITUTION: A signal transmitted from a modulator 12 and a signal sent along a route 11b are sent to polarization maintaining fiber trunks 14a and 14b. The fiber trunk 14b placed on a supporting body which can be rotated by 90 degrees at the end part as shown by an arrow F, and a device 3 scrambles a polarize wave. Thus, a linear method can be executed on time. A phase is modulated by 180 degrees on the route 11a in the code period and a vector showing the polarized state is completely rotated (360 degrees). The modulator 12 modulates the phase which is directly proportional to applied voltage and therefore a generator 13 is set to be a sawtooth voltage generator whose period is equal to the code period or equal to the two-fold code period preferably.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To reduce a dielectric loss and to obtain a high output by supporting a dielectric cylinder with two dielectric plates at a proper place and providing an alignment recess of a structure suitable for containing one of bases of the dielectric cylinder to each plate having a hole in the axial direction. CONSTITUTION: A dielectric cylinder RC uses two dielectric compact disks RS1, RS2 to be kept at a position coaxially of a cylindrical cavity. Each of the disks has an axial hole used to reduce the loss and has an alignment recess with a structure to contain properly one of bases on the cylinder RC. The support disks RS1, RS2 are made of a quartz to reduce a loss proportional to a generated heat. A metal-made body of the cavity resonator is made up of a 1st member CE having a screw T for tuning and of a 2nd member CS having an aperture IS.
