Abstract: A safety intravenous catheter that includes a passive release feature. The catheter assembly includes ready, safe, and released positions. In the release position, a retainer being in a proximal retainer position relative to a collar enables release of the catheter hub from the catheter insertion device. The sharp tip of the insertion needle remains inaccessible in the release position in order to prevent unwanted needle sticks.

Abstract: A safety catheter includes a catheter hub, a needle cannula having a tip, and a tip protector. The tip protector includes an outer member and an inner member therein. The outer member has a projection releasably engaging the catheter hub. The inner member has a pair of arms extending to free ends from a base. The inner member is axially shiftable relative to the outer member between a first position wherein the needle tip is distal of the tip protector and the free ends of the arms are spread apart such that the distal tip is not shielded, and a second position wherein the tip is within the inner and outer members and the free ends of the arms are brought into close proximity such that the distal tip is shielded. The inner member is entirely received within the outer member in both the fort and the second positions thereof.

Abstract: A method and medical pump to perform a flushing procedure are provided. Abstract: An overload protection method and apparatus for a medicament syringe pump force sensor. A dome switch is employed with force sensor components of a medicament pump. The dome switch collapses at overload pressures, isolating the force sensor from pump driving forces that exceed the force sensor limit. Abstract: An infusate tubing clamp system for an infusion pump includes at least one movable tubing holder for removably securing a portion of infusate tubing. An actuator is operatively coupled to the at least one movable tubing holder. When the actuator is activated, the at least one movable tubing holder responsively and reversibly moves to a position that compressively clamps the portion of infusate tubing with sufficient force to temporarily and reversibly occlude the infusate tubing.

Abstract: A device for syringe characterization can include a syringe pump with a plunger driver, for a syringe configured to contain can a fluid, wherein the syringe includes a barrel and a plunger. The barrel and the plunger therewithin together define a central longitudinal axis of the syringe. The device can also include a barrel outer diameter sensor, and a linear position sensor in a substantially parallel orientation with the central longitudinal axis of the syringe when the syringe is installed in the syringe pump. At least one moveable marker can be in communication with the linear potentiometer, being capable of indicating a location along the linear potentiometer corresponding to a selected location on the barrel of the syringe when the syringe is installed in the syringe pump. The device can further include software for performing calculations that are indicative of syringe characterization, with respect to locations of selected ones of the at least one moveable marker and a diameter of the barrel that is sensed by the barrel outer diameter sensor.
