Abstract:
The invention is generally accomplished by providing a tabular-grain silver halide emulsion in which at least 50 percent of the total grain projected area is accounted for by tabular grains having a mean diameter of at least 0.6 micrometer and a spacing between at least two parallel twin planes of less than about 0.011 micrometer. In a preferred form, at least 90 percent of the total grain projected area is accounted for by the tabular grains of the invention having a mean diameter of at least 0.6 micrometer and a spacing between at least two parallel twin planes of less than 0.012 micrometer.
Abstract:
Neural network, particularly one suited for use in optical character recognition (OCR) systems, which through controlling back propagation and adjustment of neural weight and bias values through an output confidence measure, smoothly, rapidly and accurately adapts its response to actual changing input data (characters). Specifically, the results of appropriate actual unknown input characters, which have been recognized with an output confidence measure that lies within a pre-defined range, are used to adaptively re-train the network during pattern recognition. By limiting the maximum value of the output confidence measure at which this re-training will occur, the network re-trains itself only when the input characters have changed by a sufficient margin from initial training data such that this re-training is likely to produce a subsequent noticeable increase in the recognition accuracy provided by the network. Output confidence is measured as a ratio between the highest and next highest values produced by output neurons in the network.
Abstract:
A low volume thin tank photographing apparatus includes a tank (1) having a narrow passage (2) through which imagewise photographic material (5) to be processed is passed. At the inlet (7) of the tank (1) a reservoir (7) for photographic processing solution (8) is provided. Solution is circulated in a circuit (14) between inlets (9, 10), and outlets (11, 12).
Abstract:
A large format laser scanning system is disclosed that incorporates a compact, wobble free and wavelength insensitive scanning mechanism. The scanning mechanism includes a pentaprism and lens mounted on a rotating frame assembly that is located within a scanning drum. Multiple light beams generated by a light source are passed through the rotating pentaprism and lens to scan a photosensitive medium located on the interior surface of the scanning drum.
Abstract:
A photoelectrographic element comprising a conductive layer in electrical contact with an acid photogenerating layer which is (a) free of photopolymerizable materials and (b) comprises an electrically insulating binder and an acid photogenerator is disclosed in which the binder comprises a polymer having as a repeating unit thereof a moiety selected from the group consisting of (I) and (II) wherein R represents an alkylene group having 2, 4 or 6 carbon atoms and X represents an aromatic radical. A method of forming images with the element also is disclosed.
Abstract:
A process for preparation of resorcinol bis(hydroxyethyl)ether by first contacting resorcinol with ethylene carbonate in the presence of water and an alkali metal carbonate and then adding a solution of water and an alkali metal hydroxide and then recovering the resorcinol bis(hydroxyethyl)ether by crystallization.
Abstract:
A method of recovering ethylene glycol and dimethyl terephthalate from scrap polyethylene terephthalate resins by dissolving the scrap in oligomers of the same monomers and passing methanol through the solution.
Abstract:
Apparatus for casting cellulose acetate film from a hot solution is described. The apparatus includes a casting wheel (12), means (13, 14) for passing heated liquid through the wheel to heat the wheel, means (15) for extruding a band of solution onto the wheel, a take-off roller (16) for taking the band, in the form of a film, off the wheel and further rollers (18, 20, 22) for leading the film (26) to a drier (24) after which, when the solvent has been largely removed from the film, the film is wound up into a roll. The take-off roller (16) and the further rollers (18, 20, 22) are concave whereby a defect in the form of surface imperfections is avoided. The imperfections take the form of short sinuous lines oriented generally parallel to the length of the film.
Abstract:
A method for assuring that a multi-layer circuit board (10) has been assembled in a selected order which method incorporates the step of forming a label (201, 204) on each layer of the multi-layer circuit board, with each of the labels having a unique indicia thereon indicative of that layers position in a correctly assembled multi-layer circuit board (10). Additionally, there is provided the step of forming a transparent area (231-234) in each layer above the last layer to be viewed, with the size of each transparent area limited to that necessary to view only the indicia of the following correctly assembled layers, such that an incorrectly ordered layer prevents the viewing of at least one indicia. A replication of the labels, commencing from the last ordered layer to the first ordered layer, provides for a doubling in the number of layers that can be checked for correct assembly order.
