Abstract: PURPOSE:A polyester composition having excellent moldability, prepared by adding a monometal salt of an aromatic polycarboxylic acid alkyl ester to a polyester. CONSTITUTION:To a crystalline polyester there is added 0.005-5wt%, pref., 0.05-2wt%, based on the polyester, of a monometal salt of an aromatic polycarboxylic acid alkyl ester represented by the formula, wherein Ar is an aromatic ring; M is a metal selected from the metals of the groups I and II of the periodic table (Na is preferred); R is a 1-20C alkyl (methyl or ethyl is preferred); n is 1-4; and X is 1 or 2. The compound represented by the above formula, for example, monosodium salt of monomethyl terephthalate is prepared by heating and dissolving dimethyl terephthalate in a large excess of methanol, and reacting the solution while adding dropwise thereto an aqueous sodium hydroxide solution.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a highly elastic modified polyester which has a good toughness and heat resistance by adding a specified amount of aromatic dihydroxy compounds to polyalkylene terephthalate and melting it by heating under a reduced pressure or in an inert gas stream. CONSTITUTION:At least one aromatic dihydroxy compound which is selected from formulas I and II, wherein Ar is aryl and R is H or 1-10C alkyl, is added to polyalkylene terephthalates which are composed of terephthalic acid or corresponding derivatives and diol in a molar ratio of aromatic dihydroxy compound to terephthalic acid component of 1:100-50:100. This mixture is melted by heating in the presence of a proper catalyst and diol component of polyester is transesterified with the aromatic dihydroxy compound under a reduced pressure or in an inert gas stream, and the glycol component is distilled from the reaction system.
