A low-smoke, non-halogenated flame retardant composition made from and/or containing polypropylene, magnesium dihydroxide, and aluminum magnesium layered double hydroxide modified with a hydrogenated fatty acid is disclosed. A composition containing and/or made from (a) a polypropylene, (b) a first distribution of magnesium dihydroxide particles having a d50 in the range of about 0.75 microns to about 1.25 microns, (c) a second distribution of magnesium dihydroxide particles having a d50 in the range of about 1.50 microns to about 3.50 microns, and (d) aluminum magnesium layered double hydroxide modified with a hydrogenated fatty acid is disclosed. A power cable having a jacket made from and/or containing a low-smoke non-halogenated flame retardant composition is also disclosed.

Disclosed herein are a thermoplastic resin composition and a molded article produced therefrom. The thermoplastic resin composition includes a thermoplastic resin, an inorganic filler, and a maleic anhydride (MAH)-grafted rubber, and has a coefficient of linear expansion from about 20×10−6 cm/cm° C. to about 35×10−6 cm/cm° C., as measured in accordance with ASTM D696. The thermoplastic resin composition can exhibit low shrinkage, excellent impact resistance and excellent flexural modulus and can have a good balance therebetween.

Specifically, the present invention provides an electric wire for an automobile coated with a composition comprising (A) 100 parts by weight of a mixture of 1 to 30 parts by weight of a maleic acid-modified polypropylene resin and a polyolefin-based resin other than the maleic acid-modified polypropylene resin, (B) 10 to 80 parts by weight of a halogen-based flame retardant, and (C) 5 to 45 parts by weight of a metal hydrate flame retardant.

A composition useful for forming wire and cable insulation includes particular amounts of a poly(arylene ether), a hydrogenated block copolymer of an alkenyl aromatic compound and a conjugated diene, a polyolefin, and a flame retardant. The flame retardant includes specific amounts of zinc borate, melamine cyanurate, and an organophosphate ester. The composition provides reduced cost and increased flexibility relative to known compositions using melamine polyphosphate and metal phosphinate flame retardants.
