    Abstract: The invention relates to a method of coupling first and second ropes together, such as to form a mooring line. In one embodiment, a method of coupling a first rope (100) having a core (112) comprising a plurality of multi-strand subropes (1 14) to a second rope (200) having a core comprising a plurality of multi-strand subropes is disclosed. The method comprises the step of forming an eye end termination (116) on the first rope (100) by coupling at least one pair of subropes (114) in the first rope core (112) together to thereby form at least part of a first loop (150, 152) of the eye end termination; and coupling at least one further pair of subropes (114) in the first rope core (112) together to thereby form at least part of a further loop (150, 152) of the eye end termination, said further loop being separate from the first loop. The method also comprises forming an eye end termination (216) on the second rope (200) by coupling at least one pair of subropes in the second rope core together to thereby form at least part of a first loop (250, 252) of the eye end termination; and coupling at least one further pair of subropes in the second rope core together to thereby form at least part of a further loop (250, 252) of the eye end termination, said further loop being separate from the first loop. The loops of the eye end termination of the first rope and the loops of the eye end termination of the second rope are then mounted on a connecting spool (58) to couple the ropes together.

    Abstract: A flexible sling system (10) constructed of a multiplicity of flexible loops (12a-12j) linked together to form a chain of individual loop slings. Each individual sling component comprises a length of flexible woven material which overlaps on itself and is sewn closed to form a circular loop of woven material. Each component is linked to the next in a manner that provides flexibility and movement of one link with respect to the others. The resultant chain of sling components functions as a long sling section comprised of operable portions of the chain of sling components as the load conditions might require. For smaller diameter loads, fewer links of the chain may be utilized for lifting, while for larger diameter loads, more links of the chain may be used. In addition, where the load may require it, the chain of sling components can operate to tighten around the load by passing the one end of the flexible chain through one of the sling loops in a manner that permits the sling loop to slip along the length of the chain and tighten against the load. Under either such described use of the sling system, multiple attachment points are provided by securing lift line hooks (24, 28, 30, 34) or the like to any of the multiplicity of circular sling components that make up the lifting sling system.
