Abstract:
A pneumatic tire has a bead core consisting of a single core and plural sheath layers formed by helically winding plural sheath wires around the core, in which an end count of sheath wires in an outermost sheath layer is made smaller than an end count at a close-packed state or each sheath wire constituting a second sheath layer from an outermost side is covered with a coating rubber prior to the winding.
Abstract:
A pneumatic tire comprises a bead core formed by laminating three or more sheath layers of spirally twisted sheath filaments around a thick core wire and making reverse the twisting direction of the sheath filament in these sheath layers every the sheath layer, in which the number of twisting pitches in the sheath filament of a second sheath layer viewed from the outermost side is made smaller than that in sheath filament of a sheath layer located inward from the second sheath layer.
Abstract:
A rubber article-reinforcing steel cord includes a core obtained by forming a single filament in a wavy shape, an inner sheath formed by arranging 5 to 6 filaments around the core, and an outer sheath formed by arranging 9 to 12 filaments around the inner sheath. The inner sheath and said outer sheath are twisted together. The diameter of each of the filaments of the inner and outer sheaths is not greater than that of the filaments of the core, 5d .ltoreq.L.ltoreq.3d and 1.2.ltoreq.H.ltoreq.d2.0d in which L and H are a wave length and a wave height of a wave shape of the waved filaments of the core, respectively, and d is a diameter of the filament of the core, and a ratio p.sub.3 /p.sub.2 between the twisting pitch p.sub.2 of the inner sheath and the twisting pitch p.sub.3 of the outer sheath is in a range of 1.4 to 2.5. A heavy duty pneumatic radial tire is also disclosed, which uses such steel cords in a belt.
Abstract:
A composite reinforcing rope is made of a cylindrical core of twisted filaments of aromatic polyamides around which a plurality of steel wires of a rectangular configuration are coiled. The steel wires are wound side-by-side in one layer. Each wire is twisted around its own axis to such a degree that its broader side fully engages the periphery of the polyamide core. The edges of respective wires are rounded whereby the convex narrow dides of adjoining wires contact one another substantially along a line.

Abstract:
An optical well logging cable and method of fabrication is provided which utilizes the combination of optical fiber means having a proof test stress value of at least about 150,000 pounds per square inch with a surrounding and protecting arrangement of helically wound strength elements in a construction that minimizes the inelastic part of the cable elongation by minimizing the deformability of the structure within the arrangement of strength elements. This arrangement of strength elements includes two torque balancing layers wound in opposite helical directions. It is a feature of this invention that the construction has such a low permanent radial contraction under repeated loading to about 90% of the design breaking strength of the cable that its permanent elongation is no greater than about 0.4% and preferably 0.25% or less.
Abstract:
A reinforcing cord for elastomeric products is produced by feeding a plurality of single metal wires of the same diameter into a set of successively arranged stranding points. At least two wires are fed into the first stranding point and through the subsequent stranding points. Additional wires are fed into the respective subsequent stranding points. The quantity of wires fed to the stranding points is determined by the number of valleys which are present in the peripheral contour of the processed strand at this particular stranding point. In this manner each additional wire is brought in contact with at least two preceding wires in the processed strand.
Abstract:
A corrosion resistant rope in which the individual strands are sealed with a plastic foam impregnant and surrounded with a dense unfoamed plastic material is made by applying a foamable plastic to the individual wires of a series of wire strands, or, alternatively, to the individual strands as a whole, and closing the strands into a rope in a closing die while passing a nonfoamable plastic material into the closing die. Sealed plastic foam impregnated wire strands can be made in the same manner by passing nonfoamable plastic material into the stranding die during fabrication of the strand.
