Abstract: A paving block is made up, as seen in plan, of two connected portions (10, 12) one portion (10) comprising four connected substantially identical quadrants (14-17) and the other portion (12) having an inside-out pillow shape defined substantially by four arcuate surfaces. The curvature of each surface is substantially the same as that of the curved boundary of any one of the quadrants (14-17). Such a block may have various proportions, and may be made to various dimensions. However it is preferred for the blocks to be of such a size and weight that one can readily be held in one hand. This simplifies and makes less expensive the process of laying the blocks. Such blocks when laid have improved structural stability.

Abstract: Two forms of paving block are disclosed each having a hexagonal body portion capable of being divided along a central score line into two mirror image portions and one of the forms of block further containing a square stem portion also separable from its associated body portion along a further score line. A ground covering structure is formed by laying the blocks laterally side by side to form a substantially continuous paving employing both forms of blocks and selectively breaking the hexagonal portion of such blocks and fitting the severed mirror image portions into voids whereby the perimeter of the structure can be defined by straight lines without further breaking or cutting of any of the block forms.

Abstract: A integrally molded paving stone or slab element of ceramic material, and a ground cover made up of repeatable patterns of such elements wherein the slab elements include a hexagonal section having two 90.degree. and four 135.degree. angles and lateral and longitudinal sides and a square section with a side adjoining a side of the hexagon which is adjacent one of the 90.degree. angles. Abstract: An interlocking paving stone which has a twelve-sided main section and an eight-sided tail section which are integral with each other, coplanar, and symmetrical about a longitudinal plane perpendicular to the paving stone which bisects it into two equal longitudinally extending sections. Abstract: A paving stone for use with other similarly configured paving stones all of which are to be laid adjacent each other to form a paved surface. The paving stone having two centrally symmetrical contiguous parts at least one of which is generally square-shaped and has cut-off corners. The parts being joined along a side that is common to the two parts. There being, along the common side, a dummy groove that is common to the two parts and gives the appearance of separateness between the two parts. The one part also has at each of the four cut-off corners of the square, a protrusion which extends along the continuation of a line which joins the corner with the diametrically opposite corner. Each protrusion being directed toward a protrusion of an adjacent paving stone when the paving stone is part of a paved surface formed by a plurality of paving stones. The length of each protrusion being such that there is left, between the end of the protrusion and the end of the protrusion toward which it is directed, a substantial free space through which water may flow downwardly from the paved surface.

Abstract: A plurality of pavings stones are organized in an array to form a walkway having the appearance of cobblestones. Each of the prime elements of the walkway includes an elongated stone having the general appearance of three hexagonal stones joined together. The sides allow the stones to be interfitted to with adjacent stones being offset one-half a hexagon or more. The top surface of the stones includes three rounded projections above the planar sidewalls so that earth, sand and the like which falls into the cracks between the projections will give the walkway the appearance of cobblestones.
