Abstract: PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for mutual authentication in downloadable conditional access system are provided to reduce maintenance costs by moving entity authentication based on hardware. CONSTITUTION: An announce protocol processing unit certifies security announce information by using a authentication proxy(200). The announce protocol processing unit transmits the security announce information to a security module(100). A key protocol processing unit relays a key request and a key response. A decoder decodes the key reply information by using the security module. The authentication protocol processing unit decides the identity of the second encryption key and the first encryption key.
