Abstract: In the cold drawing of steel tubing, an excellent lubrication which permits drawing the tubing while retaining its original metallic luster can be achieved by first contacting the surfaces of the tubing, both exterior and interior, with a colloidal titatium containing aqueous composition, drying the tubing, and then applying to the surface of the tubing a liquid lubricating composition comprising (i) from 40 to 95 % of a first component selected from the group consisting of olefin/oil or olefin/fat compounds which contain from 23 to 30 % of sulfur and olefin/higher ester compounds which contain from 23 to 30 % sulfur, including mixtures of two or more chemical species meeting this description; and (ii) from 5 to 50 % of a second component selected from the group consisting of oil soluble polymer compounds, fats and oils, synthetic oils, mineral oils, higher fatty acids, and the amine salts of higher fatty acids.

Abstract: A lubricating composition is disclosed comprising a base oil of mineral and/or synthetic origin in combination with molybdenum disulfide, zinc naphthenate and one or more metal dithiophosphates, and optionally one or more metal dithiocarbamates. A lubricating grease comprising such a composition in combination with a thickener, which may be a urea compound, a simple lithium soap or a lithium complex, is particularly suitable for lubricating constant velocity joints such as constant velocity ball joints.

Abstract: A process for drawing wire employing a lubricant comprising perfluorocarbon compounds (PFCs), including aliphatic perfluorocarbon compounds ( alpha -PFCs) having the general formula CnF2n+2, perfluoromorpholines having the general formula CnF2n+1ON, perfluoroamines (PFAs) and highly fluorinated amines (HFAs), and perfluoroethers (PFEs). Such fully and highly fluorinated carbon compounds exhibit a very high degree of thermal and chemical stability due to the strength of the carbon-fluorine bond. Further, because the compounds are fully fluorinated, and therefore do not contain chlorine and bromine, they have zero ozone depletion potential (ODP). Further, because the compounds are photochemically non-reactive in the atmosphere, they are not precursors to photochemical smog and are exempt from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) volatile organic compound (VOC) definition. Further, because they are volatile, the compounds are easily removed at the end of the process without need for an additional cleaning step. The process provides wire at significantly higher production speeds and longer die life with improved quality and less byproduct debris.
