Abstract:
This invention relates to a cost effective process for preparing a corrosion inhibitor/metal passivator additive for lubricant, grease and fuel applications from waste refinery streams, comprising reacting 2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole either in powder form or in solution form in polar organic solvent, with disulphide oil obtained from Merox extraction/caustic wash of the refinery streams, in the presence or absence of redox agent.
Abstract:
The shortcomings inherent in prior art coupling fluids are eliminated by combining 1) a polyorganosiloxane fluid as the base oil with 2) sulfur or certain sulfur compounds and 3) at least one cyclic organosiloxane. These three ingredients form a suitable coupling fluid for use in viscous coupling systems.
Abstract:
There are provided a process for preparing a suspension of elemental sulfur in a fluid, a process for preparing a sulfurized cutting fluid, and products that are obtained from the processes. A high-shearing mechanical device is employed in either process to transform an unfinished suspension of sulfur in a fluid into a stable suspension of finely-divided sulfur.
Abstract:
A metalworking composition and an additive for a metalworking composition which imparts extreme pressure, antiwear, and corrosion-inhibiting properties to the metalworking composition. The additive comprises a phosphate ester and a sulphur compound. The composition comprises the additive used in an oil-based vehicle.
Abstract:
AN IMPROVED PROCESS FOR SYNTHESIZING MOLYBDENUM NAPHTHENATE PRODUCT EMPLOYING MOLYBDENYL BIS-ACETYLACETONATE AND NAPHTHENIC ACID WHICH ARE REACTED AT AN ELEVATED TEMPERATURE PRODUCING THE MOLYBDENUM NAPHTHENATE PRODUCT IN COMPARATIVELY HIGH YIELDS SUITABLE FOR COMMERCIAL PRODUCTION. THE PRODUCT HAS UTILITY AS AN ADDITIVE FOR LUBRICATING OILS.
Abstract:
Oleophilic mixts. of surface urea of 10-800 sq.m./gm suitable for use in lubricating compns. comprises graphite and a sulphur contng. material and are prepd. by grinding, pref. in a vibratory ball mill, a mixt. of 1) graphite, either natural or synthetic, and 2) a sulphur contng. material, suitably sulphur, mixtures of metal powders and sulphur and covalent or ionic metal halides, suitably at a wt. ratio of 1):2) of 1:100 to 100:1, the grinding being carried out, pref. in the absence of air, beneath the surface of an organic liquid, suitably the liquid distilling 500 degrees C, having a viscosity 600 cs at 100 degrees F, a surface tension 70 and pref. 10 to 40 dynes/cm at 25 degrees C, and is a branched aliphatic hydrocarbon, pref. 2,2,4-trimethylpentane. By an oleophilic solid is meant a solid which will absorb n-dotriacontane in preference to n-butanol.
