Abstract:
An elevator rope comprising an elastomer coated, multistrand steel wire cable is claimed. In such a cable strands have a lay-length of at least 6.5 times the diameter of the bare cable diameter D. The cable is further coated with an elastomeric jacket, which adheres to the strands with a pull-out force not less than 15xD+15 newton per mm. The advantages of such an elevator rope are amongst others its limited elongation, its reduced diameter and its improved fatigue life.

A steel cord for the reinforcement of rubber articles is formed by twisting 4-5 strands, each strand (1) being formed by twisting a sheath (3) of 4-5 steel filaments around a core (2) of a single steel filament, wherein a ratio of diameter d S of the steel filament constituting the sheath to diameter d C of the steel filament constituting the core is within a range of 1.00 - 1.75, and a twisting direction of the sheath in the strand is the same as a twisting direction of the strand in the cord, and a twisting angle a of the sheath in the strand with respect to an axis of the cord, as calculated by a certain defined equation, is within a range of 30 - 52°.

Individual elongate elements (wires 2 or strands 4) are drawn off stationary coils (21) in such a manner that the element (2,4) is elastically twisted. The elements (2,4) are guided to a stationary closing means (23) in which a bundle of the elements is formed, the elements immediately before being formed into the bundle being substantially free from any curvature that will result in residual slackness in the elongate member (1,3) being manufactured. The bundle is withdrawn from the closing means (23) and is simultaneously rotated about its axis so as to form the elongate member (strand 1 or rope 3) and substantially untwist the elongate elements (2,4). The product can be at least 300 m long.

Câble de renfort (10) comportant un assemblage de torons (100). Chaque toron (1,2) est constitué par deux fils (1a, 1b, 2a, 2b) enroulés l'un autour de l'autre dans le même sens, avec un pas constant dont la longueur (|p 1 |, |p 2 | est inférieure à 300 mm. Les deux fils ont entre eux un contact linéaire sous forme d'une hélice (L 1 , L 2 ). Ces hélices ont le même sens et la même longueur de pas constante (|p a |). L'assemblage est constitué par deux torons de même longueur de pas et de sens opposés et/ou il est constitué par deux à quatre torons tels que l'assemblage ait la même longueur de pas et de même sens qu'un toron et, par rapport à un autre toron, une longueur de pas différente et/ou un sens opposé.
