Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a field electron emission device and its manufacturing method adaptable to a power amplifier or the like having large input resistance, a linear transfer characteristic, and large mutual conductance. SOLUTION: This field electron emission device is provided with at least spindle-shaped cathode electrode provided on the surface of a conductive planar substrate and having a spindle shaft nearly perpendicular to the planar substrate, a first insulating layer provided on the surface of the planar substrate and opened around the cathode electrode, a gate electrode provided on the first insulating layer and opened around the cathode electrode, an anode electrode provided on the surface of a counter electrode arranged on the planar substrate via a vacuum layer, and a control electrode provided in the middle between the gate electrode and the anode electrode.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To conduct easy matching of electron emission elements with modulating electrodes and prevent crosstalk or the like by forming the modulating electrodes on the non-emission sides of the electron emission elements via an insulation layer or on the same surface therewith. CONSTITUTION:Modulating electrodes 5 are formed on a glass board 1 using Cr/Ni/Cr thin films, next a SiO2 insulation layer 2 is formed all over the board, element lines with surface-conductive electron emission elements normal to the modulating electrodes 5 are formed and finally modulating electrode wirings combining heat radiating effect is formed to obtain an electron beam generator. Provided 5mm above the electron beam generator is a face plate that fluorescent substance 13 is applied onto a glass board 11. A X-Y matrix is formed with element wiring electrodes 8 and the modulating electrodes 5 for an image display. Voltage is applied to element lines in the image display in sequence to emit electrons from each electron emission section 4, and voltage is applied to the modulating electrodes 5 to make electrons collide with the fluorescent substance 13.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To simplify fabricating processes, give a sufficient amount of electron emission, and eliminate variation or unevenness in modulation by placing electron emitting elements and a modulation electrode in line on the same insulative base body surface, and designing the electrode on this base body surface with a greater occupation area than the elements. CONSTITUTION:In an electron beam generating device, electron emitting elements 2, 3 as source of electron beam and a modulation electrode 4, which modulates electron beam emitted by these elements 2, 3, are placed in line on the same insulative base body surface, wherein the occupation area W2 of the modulation electrode 4 on this base body surface shall be greater than that W1 of the element 2, 3, i.e., three time as large or more. This facilitates alignment of the electrode 4 with element 2, 3, simplifies fabrication, and gives a sufficient amount of electron emission compared with conventional arrangement. Further, this improves remarkably the modulational unevenness between a plurality of electron beams or undeliberate variation of the amount of electron emission at the time of driving, and also provides an excellent modulation efficiency for the electron beam emitted.
