Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active matrix type in-plane switching color liquid crystal display device having excellent visibility angle characteristics, low in manufacturing cost and achieving a high-quality large-screen image with less display unevenness. SOLUTION: The in-plane switching liquid crystal display device includes a pair of substrates at least one of which is transparent; a liquid crystal composition layer held between the substrates; a plurality of scanning lines and image signal wiring arranged in matrix shape on the surface facing one of the substrates; a pixel electrode forming a pair with a common electrode; and a thin film transistor element connected to the pixel electrode, the scanning lines and image signal wiring. The in-plane switching liquid crystal display device is manufactured using a process in which a connection part of a protective transistor element for electrostatic countermeasures which connects the common electrode and the scanning lines to each other, and a connection part of a protective transistor element for electrostatic countermeasures which connects the common electrode and the image signal wiring to each other, are simultaneously formed using a half-tone exposure technique at the element separation of a thin film semiconductor layer of the thin film transistor element. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active matrix-type in-plane switching mode color liquid crystal display apparatus which has excellent viewing angle characteristics, the manufacturing cost of which is made inexpensive and in which a high-quality big-screen image having hardly display irregularity can be realized. SOLUTION: The in-plane switching mode color liquid crystal display apparatus is provided with: a pair of substrates at least one of which is transparent; a liquid crystal composition layer held between the substrates; a plurality of scanning lines, video signal wires and pixel electrodes, which are paired with common electrodes, all of which are arranged in a matrix mode on the opposed surface of one of the substrates to each other; and a thin-film transistor element connected to the pixel electrodes, the scanning lines and the video signal wires. A connection portion of a protective transistor element, which is connected to both of the common electrodes and the scanning lines and copes with static electricity, and a connection portion of another protective transistor element, which is connected to both of the common electrodes and the video signal wires and copes with static electricity, are formed simultaneously when an element of a thin-film semiconductor layer of the thin-film transistor element is separated by using a halftone exposure technique. A polarizing means is provided which changes optical characteristics according to the alignment state of the liquid crystal layer, the scan signal line is formed of aluminum-based alloy 9 and copper 3 in such structure that the aluminum-based alloy completely cover the copper, and the surface of the aluminum is coated with an aluminum oxide 10 except a contact portion.
