Abstract: This invention is a filter assembly for preparing gases for an exhaust gas analyzer. A single housing includes at least three filter cavities, an inlet passage and two outlet passages. A coarse filter for filtering particlate matter and for condensate condensation is disposed in the first filter cavity. Condensate from the first cavity drains into the second filter cavity which has disposed therein a fine filter for filtering condensate. An outlet passage is connected to the second filter cavity for withdrawal of the condensate. A fine filter for filtering the exhaust gas is disposable in the third filter cavity which is coupled to the first filter cavity. A second outlet passage connects the third filter cavity to a pump for removal of the gas to be analyzed. The present invention thus provides a multiple filter assembly in a single housing with large fine filter area, minimal void volume, minimal interconnections, and convenient access to the individual filters. This achieves precise filtration of gases for analysis, allows low pump flow rates which save costs, lowers system stress, and reduces response time, minimizes leak potential, saves labor and equipment costs, and protects filters and peripheral equipment.

Abstract: A pump is described in which a flexible enclosure defines a pump chamber and in which the contents of the pump chamber are expelled by movement of a pair of opposed pusher elements engaged with the enclosure. The pusher elements are displaced by at least one pair of beam springs, each of which is pivotally supported at one end and is engaged with one of the pusher elements at the other end. The ends of the beam springs opposite the pusher elements are pivoted by actuation of symmetrical solenoid armatures, causing each of the springs to be stressed. Relief of the spring stress forces the pusher elements toward each other. De-energization of the solenoid armatures permits the beam springs to pivot back to the original position upon filling of the pump chamber.

Abstract: A medical infusion system has a pump and cassette (16) combination for conducting fluid or semisolids from an upstream portion to a downstream portion of the system. The cassette includes a rigid enclosure (17) defining a pumping chamber (18) and has a window (25) with a diaphragm (27) spanning the window. The diaphragm is engaged by means on the pump for varying the volume of the pumping chamber. The configuration of the cassette is such that the outlet (23) for the pumping chamber is located at the top of the pumping cavity and the internal configuration of the cavity causes gas bubbles to migrate to the outlet opening. A passage (29) communicates between the outlet opening and a location proximate to the lower portion of the cassette. Alternatively, the outlet opening may extend vertically or horizontally from the top of the pumping chamber and communicate with a flexible conduit.

Abstract: Multiple embodiments of an implantable infusion device for delivering precisely regulated dosages of drugs are disclosed, each device including reservoir means for containing the drug, catheter means for delivering the drug to the body and an actuating means which is responsive to a signal applied externally of the body for initiating delivery of a precisely regulated dosage. In one embodiment, the device is implanted subcutaneously to permit actuation by a solenoid driven element responsive to coded telemetry signal applied through the skin. In additional embodiments, the reservoir is pressurized for example, by means of vapor pressure or a mechanical spring, the drug under pressure in the reservoir being released in response to an externally applied signal.
