Abstract: Fibre polymer contains at least 50 wt.% acrylonitrile units. During drying, the fibres, as a relaxed aqs. gel, are fed into a well-ventilated atmosphere at a pressure at which the dry temp. T is above the b.p. of water at this pressure, and pref. at least 10 degrees C above it, and the wet temp. is >=80 degrees C for T 130 degrees C and >=70 degrees C for T >130 degrees C. Preferably the atmosphere is superheated steam, alone or mixed with air.

Abstract: 915,944. Double twist spindles. TEXTILE & CHEMICAL RESEARCH CO. Ltd. Oct. 2, 1959 [Oct. 6, 1958], No. 44916/61. Divided out of 915,942. Class 120 (2). A horizontal double-twist spindle especially for use in the cabling-assembly of Specification 915,942 comprises a shaft 19, Fig. 1, axially bored at 34 for the passage of the yarn, and, at the inner end of the bore, a transverse bore 82, Fig. 2, provided with a removable cartridge containing a freely-mounted grooved roller 91 so disposed that a tangent to the roller at the bottom of the groove substantially coincides with the axis of the shaft, and leading from the bore 82, a radial bore 35 for passage of the yarn. The bore 82 is formed in a frusto-conical part 31 of the shaft to which is secured a plate 33 so that a yarn-bore 36 in its hub coincides with bore 35 and a transverse-bore 83, 84 coincides with bore 82. Bore 83, 84 is internally screw-threaded to receive plugs 87, 88 locating the cartridge which consists of a sleeve 100, and two recessed plugs 96, 97 carrying a pin 93 on which the roller 91 is mounted on bearings 94, 95. Sleeve 100 has an aperture and a flap in the region of the groove, the flap closing that part of the groove to which the yarn does not pass. A transverse pin 101 positions the cartridge axially and prevents its rotation. A second plate 48 is mounted by bearings 45, 46 on the shaft; this plate carries housings 51, 76 and supports cage-bars 50 carried at the front of the device by a ring 86. Housing 51 carries a counterweight 52 and housing 76 a brake drum 64 connected to a package sleeve 54 rotatably mounted by bearings 55, 56 on the spindle. The brake-drum 64 is associated with a yarn-feeler 103, Fig. 3, in the cage, which is one arm of a bell-crank on a pivot 104 of which the other arm has three holes 106 to one of which is connected a spring 107, adjustable according to the position of a nut 108 on a screwed-rod 110. The bell-crank is integral with a lug 105 to which is attached one end of a brake-belt 115 having an elastic portion 116. The package-sleeve 54 has a fluted recess 67, in which a grip-ring 68 rolls as the package is donned or doffed, and an extension 70 with three gaps each containing a retaining-spring 73. Guides 79, 80 are carried by one of the bars 50 and a further guide 81 by a pivoted bar 119. The shaft 19 is mounted in bearings 23, 24 and is driven by a pulley 13; when the device is used as a let-off spindle, the yarn passes over the lowermost bar 50, which is rotatably mounted to offset tension-changes as the package unwinds, over a second bar to the feeler, by which the unwinding package is braked to adjust the yarn tension, to a third bar and guides 79, 80, 81 and thence to bore 34 and roller 91 where it receives its first twist; it then travels through bores 35, 36 over rollers 41 and a ring 43 carried by plate 33, between which and an external guide it forms a balloon and is further twisted.
