Abstract: A medical intervention device may include a handheld device adapted for minimally invasive procedures. The device may include a handle that remains outside of the patient and an extension that extends from the handle into the patient and includes an end effector such as a forceps at a distal end. The mechanical operating relationship between the extension and the end effector may provide for motion about multiple intersecting axes thereby avoiding a need for compensating motion. In particular, yaw and pitch motion may be imparted independent of one another and avoiding a need for compensating motion of one axis for another. Moreover, the mechanical operating relationships of the device be configured for precisely mimicking the hand motion of the surgeon or other user and may include ratioed motion that provides for more precise motion at the end effector than at the handle and/or tremor control.

Abstract: A direct peroral cholangioscope system comprises a guide sheath sized to pass through an esophagus of a patient comprising a proximal end portion, a distal end portion, and a lumen extending between the proximal end portion and the distal end portion, an endoscope comprising an elongate body extending from a proximal end to a distal end, an imaging device coupled to the elongate body proximate the distal end, and a passage extending at least partially through the elongate body and exiting at the distal end, the elongate body sized to pass through the lumen, and a tissue retrieval device configured to pass through the passage and retrieve tissue from within the patient. The guide sheath can be used to steer the endoscope through the pyloric sphincter and the sphincter of Oddi to allow the endoscope to be articulated in the common bile duct using native steering capabilities.

Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods for kidney stone management are provided. A device can include a medical apparatus comprising a kidney stone blocker configured to (i) remain in a human kidney after deployment and (ii) prevent passage of a kidney stone greater than a predetermined size into a ureter while allowing urine to pass to the ureter, and an elongated, tubular member mechanically coupled to the kidney stone blocker and configured to be situated in the ureter.

Abstract: A lithotripsy system can include a lithotripsy device and controller circuitry. The device for acoustic calculi fracture can include an acoustic treatment probe for providing acoustic energy along the probe to treat one or more calculi and an evacuation pathway extending at least partially via the prob, for removing at least a portion of the one or more calculi via the evacuation pathway. The controller circuitry, coupled to the lithotripsy device, can be configured to receive an indication of clogging of the evacuation pathway and at least one of initiate or adjust a anti-clogging mode for changing at least one characteristic of evacuation via the evacuation pathway in response to the received indication of clogging.

Abstract: Techniques for estimating composition of a biological sample during an ablation procedure are provided. In an example, a composition detector system can include a probe, an illumination source, and a spectrometer. In an example, the probe can extend through a working channel of a viewing scope and can convey mechanical, acoustical, or ultrasonic energy to tissue of a patient to ablate the tissue at a distal end of the probe. A portion of the tissue may be illuminated at the distal end of the probe or as the portion is being evacuated and collected for disposal by the illumination source. The illumination can generate response illumination that can be received by the spectrometer. The spectrometer can analyze the response illumination and provide an estimate of the composition of the portion of tissue.

Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods for endoscopic mapping of a target and tracking of endoscope locations inside a subjects body during a procedure are disclosed. An exemplary system comprises an imaging system configured to capture an endoscopic image of the target that includes a footprint of an aiming beam directed at the target, and a video processor configured to identifying one or more landmarks from the captured endoscopic image and determine their respective locations relative to the aiming beam footprint, and generate a target map by integrating a plurality of endoscopic images based on landmarks identified from one or more of the plurality of endoscopic images. The target map can be used to track endoscope location during an endoscopic procedure.
