Abstract: The surface of inking-rollers is renewed by circulating molten roller composition from a tank over the roller while it is rotating and returning the surplus composition draining from the roller, directly to the tank. The roller composition is contained in a tank 1 and is kept molten by a water jacket 1 heated by gas burners 2. A pump 3 of the rotary gear type is immersed in the tank and is driven from an electric motor 20 to pump the composition through pipes 23, 27 and flexible pipe 29 to a nozzle 30. The roller to be coated is supported in an inclined position above the tank with one end of its spindle supported on a bracket 21 and the other end in driving engagement with a shaft 10 driven by bevel and belt gear from the motor 20. The roller is heated by gas jets 32 .. 35 so controlled that the intensity of heating decreases from the bottom to the top end of the roller. The composition is spread over the rotating roller by the nozzle 30, surplus composition falling into a drip pan 38 and being returned to the tank above a sieve 26. The amount of the composition issuing from the nozzle may be varied by adjusting a valve 31, the excess supplied by the pump passing through a non-return valve 24a to a pipe 25 leading back to the tank.
