Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data storage tape cartridge with a subambient pressure feature. SOLUTION: The subambient pressure feature for assisting in guidance of a storage tape within a tape transport system such as a data storage tape cartridge and/or a tape drive is provided. The storage tape is extended between two tape reels along a tape path defined, in part, by a tape guide. The tape guide includes a curved tape-receiving surface defined by an entrance side and an exit side. The subambient pressure feature is located along the tape path and is adapted to induce frictional engagement between the tape and at least a portion of the tape-receiving surface at speeds of not less than 1 m/s to suppress lateral tape motion. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for reducing an early drying of a solvent based coating film including an early drying at the part on a device to be applied with a coating film. SOLUTION: The method includes that the solvent vapor is introduced just near a coating device and that the solvent vapor is passively carried to the part. Thereby, a risk of the early drying is reduced. The solvent in the coating fluid has a tendency that it does not rapidly vaporize in the presence of the solvent vapor. It is possible that the solvent vapor is introduced by any one of various solvent vapor release devices. For example, it is possible that the solvent vapor is passively carried to the part by an increase in concentration, diffusion or natural convection of the solvent vapor in a border layer moved with a base material of the object to be coated. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an interleaved servo pattern. SOLUTION: The servo techniques utilize servo pattern to facilitate head positioning relative to the data tracks. For example, the servo techniques may include a first series of servo patterns configured to allow calculation of a position error signal that substantially mitigates error resulting from a variation in velocity of the data storage tape during detection of the at least one of the servo patterns in the first series. The servo techniques may also includes a second series of servo patterns interleaved within the first series of servo patterns in order to encode data. The coded data can include a linear positional information. Embodiments may allow a data storage tape meeting a currently accepted data storage tape specification, e.g,, an LTO Ultrium specification, to record data in a higher density than density currently implemented with the specification. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium having a backside configured to improve durability and wear characteristics of the magnetic recording medium while embossment of a recording layer of the magnetic recording medium is decreased. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium includes a substrate, a magnetic side, and a backside. The substrate defines a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface. The magnetic side is formed over the first surface of the substrate and defines a recording surface. The backside is coated on the second surface of the substrate and is configured to decrease embossment of the recording surface. The backside defines a backside surface opposite the substrate. The backside surface has a skew less than about 0.5 and a kurtosis less than about 4.0. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data storage tape cartridge and a system having a radio frequency write medium. SOLUTION: The data storage tape cartridge is disclosed. The data storage tape cartridge includes a housing, at least one tape reel assembly, a storage tape, and the radio frequency write medium. The housing defines first and second housing sections that are reciprocally mated to form an enclosed region. The tape reel assembly is rotatably disposed within the enclosed region, and the storage tape is wound around a hub of the tape reel assembly. The radio frequency write medium is coupled to one of the housing and the tape reel assembly and also has the cartridge initialization information stored thereon. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system including a write head matrix array and a magneto-resistance (MR) read head matrix array. SOLUTION: In the system equipped with the nonlinear array of magneto-resistance heads arrayed in a two-dimensional matrix for reading information stored in a magnetic medium, the nonlinear array of the MR heads is provided with a planar array constituted of a plurality of linear arrays of MR heads stacked to define a plurality of layers. Each linear array shares at least one shield element with the other linear array of the nonlinear array. Generally, each layer is shifted by one writing pitch, and the number of layers is equal to the number of writing pitches. This matrix array is used in a system for reading/writing information in a magnetic medium by a track pitch improved as compared with a conventional reading/writing system. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data storage cartridge and a system with tampering and damage recording sensors. SOLUTION: A data storage cartridge is described. The data storage cartridge includes a housing, a data storage medium, a memory module, and at least one sensor. The housing defines first and second housing sections that are mutually engaged to form a closed region. The data storage medium and the memory module are disposed within the closed region, and the sensor(s) is/are disposed within the closed region and electrically coupled to the memory module. In this regard, sensor(s) is/are configured to sense a cartridge event and the memory module communicates with the sensor(s) to record the sensed cartridge event(s). COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
