Abstract:
Tape dispensers with an improved wetting system are disclosed. The tape dispensers include a holder for a roll of liquid-activatable tape, a wetting system that has a reservoir of liquid and a roller having an absorbable outer surface to absorb and dispense liquid, and a feeding mechanism that operatively feeds the liquid-activatable tape through the wetting system to wet the adhesive on the liquid-activatable tape. The roller is at least partially immersed in the reservoir of liquid and the wetting system includes a roller adjustment mechanism to simultaneously adjust an upward force applied by the roller to the liquid activated tape and an immersion depth of the roller into the reservoir of liquid. The wetting system may also include a pressure mechanism to adjust a downward force applied to the liquid activated tape as it passes over the roller.
Abstract:
Masking tapes that changes color when the tape is rubbed down or dispensed onto an adherend and methods of making such tapes are disclosed herein. The tape includes a backing, a layer of adhesive on the bottom surface of the backing, and a release structure on the top surface of the backing that includes a pressure-chromic indicator and a release layer. The pressure-chromic indicator is characterized in that it is not activated by the pressure applied during the manufacturing process, but is activated by the pressure applied when the tape is rubbed or dispensed onto an adherend.
Abstract:
A process for producing polymer and more particularly adhesive using a recirculating loop reactor. In one embodiment the reactor includes one or more mixers to mix feed stock with the polymerized material recirculating in the reactor. In another embodiment a planetary roller extruder (PRE) may be used for this purpose. In still another embodiment, a combination of one or more static mixers and one or more PREs may be used.
Abstract:
A process including the steps of: providing a planetary roller extruder having a plurality of compounding sections including a main spindle surrounded by and intermeshed with a plurality of planetary spindles; introducing monomers and initiator into a first compounding section; producing a homogeneous composition; heating the composition to initiate free-radical polymerization; introducing monomers and initiator into one or more of the remaining compounding sections and continuing the polymerization; discharging the polymerized composition; and optionally, taking a portion of the composition discharged from the planetary roller extruder and returning it to the first compounding section.
Abstract:
A cartoning machine (10) including a carton supply station (12) (e.g., a rotary carton supply station, a linear carton supply station, a non- linear carton supply station, or the like) and a handling station (14) operatively coupled to the carton supply station. The carton supply station provides, on a selective basis, cartons, such as carton blanks (102, 104, 106), pre-formed cartons, or the like. The carton supply station of the cartoning machine provides for movement of magazines (11) with respect to a robot (15) in the handling station that may have a distal end secured in a stationary and fixed location. As such, different magazines with dissimilar cartons may be moved to a picking location adjacent the robot, as dissimilar cartons are required. Further, the cartons within the magazines may be moved to a pre- determined pick-up location such that the robot is repeatably picking a carton from the pre-determine pick-up location.
Abstract:
Various carton sealing tapes are disclosed that have a plurality of security features, at least two of which include nanomarker particles having identification indicia visible under about 100 to about 400 times magnification and taggants visible upon exposure to a pre-selected wavelength outside the visible spectrum included in the same or different layers of the tape structure depending upon the selection of the backing material for the substrate of the tape. The carton sealing tapes are also printable for inclusion of a consecutive sequence of coded identification information in the form of a barcode or a 2D code.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a masking article such as a masking tape, roll of masking tape, masking sheet, etc. that has a substrate or backing with a primer layer on a first major surface thereof and a pressure-sensitive silicone adhesive layer on the primer layer such that the primer layer is positioned between the backing and the adhesive layer. The masking article is able to adhere to a semi-permanent release composition at greater than about 1 Ooz/in as measured with a 90? peel test to stainless steel with a 4.5lb roll down. A method of masking a mold having a semi-permanent release applied thereto with the disclosed masking article is disclosed.

Abstract:
An improved mailer folding apparatus that forms mailers from mailer blanks. The mailer folding apparatus comprises a transport assembly and one or more folding assemblies. The transport assembly moves mailer blanks and/or mailers through the mailer folding apparatus. The one or more folding assemblies may each comprise a folding system and a carriage system. The folding system may selectively allow for the folding of a mailer blank into a mailer. A carriage of the carriage system may move the folding system longitudinally between different positions relative to the transport assembly. An engagement system separate from the carriage system or integrated into the carriage system may engage and disengage the folding system with the transport system for selectively feeding a mailer blank through the folding system, or disengage the folding system for allowing a mailer blank or folded mailer to bypass the folding system.
