Abstract: For application in atomic, thermal, cosmic and other types of power stations as well as in various types of transport facilities, and proposed for a low temp. or cryogenically cooled electric machine, such as a motor, generator, static converter etc., the unit is designed so that the pressure reduction and temp. fall of the liquid phase of the coolant residing inside the rotor provides a control for the cooling process of the rotor shaft ends. The rotor(3) hollow shaft is designed with an additional channel(16) lying at one end of the hollow shaft and in communication with the rotor(3) cavity. Additional units (21) are provided for pumping the coolant out of the rotor and for joining the additional channel(16) with the corresponding collection chamber(23) for the coolant. The current feed (lead-in)(12) connected to the negative terminal of the current supply unit(15) lies in the additional channel(16), and each current supply unit(13, 15) lies in the corresp. collection chamber(23) for the coolant.

Abstract: The machine has a superconducting winding to which current supply conductors are connected. It is mounted in a hollow rotor whose shaft has an axial channel for the coolant supply. The coolant cryogen is introduced via the axial channel which extends along half of the length of the rotor shaft. Radial holes allow the cryogen to pass out into the superconducting winding. The shaft has two coaxial tube sections (15, 16) connected together by a thread. The coolant cryogen is drained through the clearance between the threads, cooling the rotor shaft ends as it is discharged.

Abstract: The coolant supply system, for a rotating machine's superconducting excitation winding, has a needle (7) inside a rotating chamber (6) lying along the machine's axis and facing the incoming coolant. The rotating chamber is connected via two or more coolant channels (8) to the machine's cavity in which the superconducting winding (1) is located. The channels follow helical paths. The advantage of the needle lies in its reducing the relative velocity between the incoming coolant and the surfaces of the rotating chamber.

Abstract: The electric machine with cryogenic cooling has a superconducting excitation winding in a hollow rotor surrounded by a magnetic screen to be cooled as well as by a heat screen. The magnetic screen (12) is mounted inside the heat screen in which channels are made for the coolant (13) circulation and for the magnetic screen (12) cooling. Both screens are mounted in an evacuated space between the rotor (1) and casing (5). - The heat screen can be created by at least two co-axial cylinders (10, 11). The magnetic screen (12) is installed between these cylinders and rigidly connected to them.

Abstract: A super-conductive cryogen-cooled electrical machine comprises a rotor disposed within a hollow stator with an annular gap which is evacuated and kept under vacuum by means of at least two shells furnished with ports and position concentrically with a clearance or gap therebetween. One of said shells is supported in a cantilevered fashion by the rotor on the end face thereof to be coaxial therewith and the other being supported in a cantilevered fashion by the stator on the end face thereof opposite said end face of the rotor. The ports in the rotor-supported shells are made so that their axes form an acute angle alpha with tangent lines drawn to the shell periphery from the points where the port axes intersect the shell envelope in the direction of the rotor rotation, while the ports in the stator supported shells are made so as to form, in a similar way, an angle beta =180 DEG - alpha . The proposed construction of the electrical machine permits increasing the reliability and efficiency of the vacuum heat insulation of the rotor and reducing manufacture and operating costs.
