Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fiber optic rotary joint and an associated reflector assembly for supporting optical communications between a rotor and a stator at relatively large data rates. SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a fiber optic rotary joint including: an optical source 14 carried by one of the rotor and the stator; a reflector assembly 16 mounted upon the other one of the rotor and the stator and having a first reflective surface 20 shaped to define a portion of an ellipse and a second reflective surface 21 shaped to define a portion of a hyperbola; and a receiver 18 carried by the other one of the rotor and the stator. The first reflective surface and the second reflective surface are shaped and positioned such that an optical signal transmitted from the optical source is passed near the second reflective surface and the optical signal is transmitted from the optical source to the first reflective surface within a plane perpendicular to a center axial line of the rotor. SOLUTION: This improved device 10 contains the main body, a motor 13 fitted to the main body and having an output shaft 14 arranged to be operated to move the load in the rotating direction in relation to the main body, a piston 16 fitted to the main body freely to move and forming a first chamber 19 having a variable volume with the main body and arranged to be operated to move the load in the axial direction in relation to the main body, an accumulator 23 pressurized to the predetermined pressure, the fluid (for example, operating fluid) inside of the first chamber and the accumulator, a pump 26 to be driven by the motor to feed the fluid from the first chamber to the accumulator, and a valve 28 arranged to selectively flow the pressurized fluid inside of the accumulator into the first chamber to move the piston and the load in one axial direction in relation to the main body.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved standby locking mechanism used with a ball screw actuator having a rotatable screw shaft, being mounted on a movable member, and having a main nut which is threadably engaged with the screw shaft. SOLUTION: The standby lock mechanism 20 is mounted on a movable member 23 and is operationally constituted, so that it prevents a screw shaft 21 from moving further in the axial direction or rotational direction in the case of a breakdown of the main nut 22. This standby lock mechanism 20 includes a detection mechanism 30, which detects breakdown of the main nut 22, and lock mechanisms 29L, 29R which selectively lock the screw shaft 21 into the movable member 23, when breakdown of the main nut 22 is detected.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a device for inspecting the level of contaminant in a fluid during inspection period. SOLUTION: This device comprises a valve 36 arranged to direct a fluid passed in an inspection passage 48 when expanding the capacity of a chamber 47, and directing the fluid passed in the inspection passage to a basin R and also allowing the fluid in the chamber to flow to the basin when contracting the capacity of the chamber; a return mechanism 24 for selectively energizing the chamber to contract it; a calibration sensor 44 for measuring the capacity of the chamber; a controller 50 for operating the valve and the return mechanism to periodically repeatedly expanding and contracting the chamber during inspection period; and a timer 53 for measuring the time necessary for the fluid flow passed in the inspection passage to increase the chamber from a first capacity to a second capacity. According to this, the flow passing in the inspection passage can be calculated in each continuous period of the chamber.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To selectively vary the natural frequency of a mass-spring system by varying an effective spring constant electrically. CONSTITUTION: This spring 45 includes a first coil 53 which generates a first coil magnetic flux in a first gap G1 when supplied with a first current, and a second coil 54 which generates a second coil magnetic flux in a second gap G2 when supplied with a second current. When an armature 52 is in a predetermined position, a control circuit supplies the first and second coils 53, 54 with the first and second currents of magnitude and polarity such that the currents vary the net magnetic fluxes in the first and second gaps G1 , G2 without affecting a difference in magnetic force generated by the first and second magnetic fluxes. The effective spring constant of the spring 45 is varied as a function of the first and second currents. Therefore, the natural frequency of a mass- spring system can be varied selectively.
