    Abstract: PURPOSE: To enhance the machinability of the shaft of a combination camshaft and to secure the strength of coupling between the shaft and cam. CONSTITUTION: This shaft is used in a combination camshaft 1 wherein a shaft 2 with projecting strips formed on its surface by rolling is fitted into a mounting hole 5 formed in a cam 3, so that the projecting strips 4 are cut or plastically deformed by the inner surface of the cam 3 to integrate the shaft 2 and the cam 3 together. The shaft is made of carbon steel for machine structures which has a Vickers hardness of 100 to 400 and a yield point of 17 to 90 Kgf/mm .

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To make elevated portions smaller in size and number than before so as to reduce the amount of chips generated by forming a mounting hole in a cam into a generally circular shape into which the projecting strips of a shaft main body are fitted, forming elevated portions to be pressed against the projecting strips, and forming projecting portions on the inner surfaces of the elevated portions. CONSTITUTION: This camshaft is used in an internal combustion engine or the like and a shaft main body with projecting strips formed on its outer surface is pressed and fitted into a mounting hole 40 formed in the inner surface of a cam 20. In this case, the mounting hole 40 is formed in a generally circular shape and inwardly projecting elevated portions 41 to be pressed against the projecting strips are formed on at least a portion of the mounting hole 40. Projecting portions 42 are formed on the inner surfaces of the elevated portions 41. The diameter D1 of the mounting hole 40 is set to be, e.g. slightly greater than the outside diameter of each projecting strip. The axial distance D2 between the elevated portions 41 is set to be, e.g. smaller than the outside diameter of each projecting strip and greater than the outside diameter of the shaft main body to avoid interference with the shaft main body. Therefore, the projecting portions 42 are made smaller in size and number than before and the amount of chips generated can be reduced.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To continuously fix the components of a camshaft by providing a camshaft component fixing means for clamping and fixing the components of the camshaft, and a conveying means for conveying the components of the camshaft intermittently to a mounting position on a shaft body. CONSTITUTION: A pressing means 15 is operated in the reverse direction, therefore a shaft body is drawn out together with the components of a camshaft fixed thereon from a camshaft component fixing means, and a guiding means 13 is drawn out of the camshaft component fixing means. A conveying means 12 is then operated, therefore the camshaft component fixing means fixed with the next components of the camshaft to be fixed is conveyed to a mounting position and the components of the camshaft is fixed at a prescribed position of the shaft body at a prescribed angle.

The annular pressure gage is disposed oppositely to the supporting pipe 24 to detect the pressure applied to the constituting element of the cam shaft. An energizing member 26 is arranged in the supporting pipe 24 and the supporting pipe 24 is energized in the direction separating from the pressure gage 25. In this way, the pressure at the force-fitting time can smoothly and surely be detected.
