    Abstract: There is disclosed a multiple roll towel dispenser. The dispenser cabinet has a pair of feed rollers (37,38) forming a feed roll nip (35), means (43) for driving one of the feed rollers (37) to dispense web (30W) from the cabinet, means (32,33) in the cabinet for supporting a first roll (30) of web material with its web extended between the feed roll nip (35), and means (47) for supporting a second roll (28) of web material with its web (28W) extended adjacent to the feed roll nip (35). The dispenser also includes means (75), contacting the edge of the first roll (30), having a first position for sensing the diameter of the first roll; means (84), connected to the sensing means (75), for biasing the sensing means (75) against the edge of the first roll (30); biased transfer means (51) for introducing the extended web (28W) of the second roll (28) into the feed roll nip (35); and stop means (75a), connected to the sensing means (75), the stop means (75a) being located to resist motion of the transfer means (51) at a ready position when the edge of the first roll (30) resists movement of the sensing means (75). When the edge of the first roll (30) no longer resists movement of the sensing means (75), the sensing means (75) and connected stop means (75a) moves to a second position which allows the biased transfer means (51) to move to a transfer position where the extended web (28W) of the second roll (28) is introduced into the feed roll nip (35).

    Abstract: A centerflow dispenser for dispensing saturated wipers is disclosed which includes a dispensing nozzle (16) affixed to the container (10) of wet wipes. The nozzle (16) has included therewith a rotatable dispensing disc (52) through which the rolled web is dispensed. The rotatable disc (52) has a dispensing orifice (54) therethrough which preferably includes a node (62) and a plurality of contiguous appendages (64) such that the disc (52) will rotate to the path of least resistance as the saturated wipers are drawn through the dispensing orifice (54) regardless of the direction of extraction of the web through the orifice. One or more drain holes (66) are preferably provided through the dispensing disc (52) to allow liquid squeezed from the wiper as it is drawn through the dispensing orifice (54) to pass back into the container (10). The nozzle (16) includes a funnelled or frusto-conical section (34) which collects any liquid squeezed or which may drip from the wiper as it is extracted from the container to thereby direct such liquid toward the drain holes (66) in dispensing disc (52). A cap (8) is preferably provided which sealingly engages the nozzle (66) to limit vapour emissions from the container (10) when the cap (18) is in the closed position.

    Abstract: Disclosed is an interleaved L-fold towel arrangement which minimizes a number of different types of commonly occurring paper towel dispensing failures. Each towel in the interleaved stack of towels in the present invention is comprises of a sheet which has been folded in half to substantially create a two-ply arrangement. A second fold is imparted to the towel substantially to the first fold thereby creating a lead flap and a trailing flap. The lead flap begins with the first fold and thereby creates a tab end which is two-ply and which will not delaminate on dispensing. The user will thus always be grasping a two-ply product as it is being dispensed thereby minimizing tear-out and tab-out failure. The lead flap preferably has less width than the trailing flap, thus limiting the amount of deformation which must be imparted by the trailing flap to the lead flap next to be dispensed to cause said lead flap to be drawn through the dispensing opening of a dispenser.

    Abstract: An embossed film-to-foam laminate is provided having minute perforations through the film selectively distributed essentially along the sidewalls and valleys of the embossed pattern. The integrity of the laminated film material is retained on the crowns of the embossed patterned surface, since the perforations in the film material are mainly distributed on the sidewalls and valleys of the embossed pattern. The laminated product has a water-resistant and abrasion-resistant upper surface imparted by the film material on the crowns while the small perforations in the sidewalls and valleys permit sound to pass through the film and be exposed to the acoustical matrix of the open cell foam component of the laminate while impeding the penetration of liquids (e.g. water) through the film into the foam under the action of gravity. The film and/or the foam material are heated to supply adhesive material by melting or softening which serves to bond the film material to the foam.

    Abstract: Apparatus for dispensing a length of sheet material from a roll (33) eg of paper towels is actuated in response to the proximity of a portion of a band of a user to the apparatus without the hand of a user contacting the apparatus. The dispensing is done by an electrical motor (57) operating for a predetermined time and which can be powered by batteries (61). An LED (50) transmits pulses of light which are sensed by a sensor (52) arranged on the opposite side of a hand receiving open cavity (46q). When the pulses of light are interrupted by the hand a capacitor (88) is enabled to actuate the dispensing mechanism. The housing (31) of the apparatus has a modular frame (46) having a first compartment (46b) for the means for advancing the sheet material and a second compartment (46f) for the means for activating the advancing means. The dispensing apparatus can include means for storing energy (eg., 61) for energizing the advancing means in response to the withdrawal of sheet material from the dispensing apparatus by a user.
