Abstract: A thermally regulatable, pulsating cushioning device having a deformable outer membrane being adapted to sealably receive a liquid material therein; a foam core being encased within and in intimate contact with, but not bonded to the flexible, deformable outer membrane wherein the foam core has a dimension substantially coincident with the outer membrane; a liquid material, sealably contained within the flexible, deformable outer membrane and saturating the foam core, with the liquid material being at least partially circulatable throughout the foam core, wherein the cooperation of the saturated foam core and the sealable flexible membrane provide a uniform, thermally regulatable medium and structural support such that the pulsating cushioning device is readily, uniformly deformable when a load is applied thereto; a means for directly pulsating the liquid within the flexible, deformable outer membrane, causing the device to undulate or vibrate; and a thermal regulator cooperating with the liquid material to either heat or cool the liquid material.

Abstract: A thermal regulating cushioning device for heating and/or cooling is provided. The thermal regulating device comprises a flexible, deformable outer membrane being adapted to sealably receive a liquid-like material therein. A foam core is disposed within the flexible, deformable outer membrane wherein the foam core has a dimension substantially coincident with the outer membrane. A liquid-like material is sealably contained within the flexible, deformable outer membrane and saturating the foam core with the liquid material being at least partially circulatable through the foam core wherein the cooperation of the saturated foam core and the sealable flexible membrane provide a uniform, thermal regulating medium and structural support such that the cushioning device is readily, uniformly deformable when a load is applied thereto. An external heater and/or cooler circulates the liquid through the cushioning device.

Abstract: 552,122. Foam inhibiting agents. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I., and KIRK, J. S. Sept. 19, 1941, No. 12029. Addition to 530,643, [Group VIII]. [Class 1 (i)] [Also in Groups VIII and IV] In tanning skins by the process of the parent Specification or according to Specification 542,222, [Group VIII], foaming is prevented by the addition of aliphatic or alicyclic alcohols having at least 4 carbon atoms. Suitable alcohols are octanol, lauryl alcohol, alpha terpineol, cetyl alcohol or mixtures of alcohols of 14 to 15 carbon atoms obtained by high pressure hydrogenation of carbon monoxide. Examples describe the use of these foam depressants in tanning baths comprising tanning agents of the kind referred to in the above Specifications.

Abstract: 717,353. Darts. KIRK, A. S., and FAREBROTHER; H. B. March 20, 1953 [April 3, 1952], No. 8574/52. Class 132(3) A dart flight comprises a solid shaft portion of rearwardly tapering form. whose front and larger end is socketed or spigoted to receive or fit in a separate metal spigot portion of less diameter than the front end of the flight shaft, the spigot portion being externally screw threaded to screw into a bore or recess in the rear end of a dart body. In Fig. 2, a spigot 4 has a threaded portion 6 for screwing into a. dart body, and a threaded part 5 engages in a bore in a flight shaft 1. If the shaft 1 is of plastic, the shank of the spigot 4 may be moulded into the shaft. The shaft 1 of the modification shown in Fig. 5, has an integral spigot 9 on which is screwed a threaded sleeve 8 for fitting into the dart body. Instead of being screw threaded, the inner bore of the sleeve 8 may be left smooth and forced on to the spigot 9. Similarly, the shank of the spigot shown in Fig. 2, may be left unthreaded for a friction fit in the shaft 1.

Abstract: 559,739. Turning. KIRK, A. S. Nov. 17, 942, No. 16224. [Class 83 (iii)] Means for securing a tool such as a reamer, tap &c. to a lathe turret in alignment with the lathe axis comprises a plate A carrying a centre point C and having holes L which are clearance fits on studs D, thus allowing the plate to be secured to a face of the turret B with the centre on the lathe axis. This adjustment may be facilitated by drilling a female centre in a bar rotating in the lathe chuck &c. and using this bar to adjust the centre C. The tool M is mounted in a socket E attached to a holder F and provided with a female centre G for engagement with the centre C and capable of being attached to the plate A by nuts and lock nuts J, K, adjustment of which will bring the forward end of the tool into the lathe axis. Springs H may be placed between the nuts J and the holder F to give a floating action.
