Abstract: 1931. Stewart, A. Jan. 24. Treating with liquids. - Self-contained apparatus for conditioning air for ventilation purposes comprises a fan b, which also serves as a p u m p for spraying water for washing the air impelled by the fan. The air is delivered peripherally to an adj a c e n t chamber in which, after passing over trays e containing absorbent material, it is treated by an ozonizing-apparatus f and heating or cooling device g.

Abstract: The Analogue Teaching Clock provides a timepiece comprising two circular segmented dials to separately display the hour and minute units of time; one of said dials being separated into twelve 30° segments marked sequentially in clockwise order (5, 10, quarter, 20, 25, half, 25, 20, quarter, 10, 5) with one remaining blank to display only the minutes unit of time accurate to the nearest five minute increment through the use of a clockwise rotating indicator hand with an additional indicator to display whether the indicated minutes are "to" or "past" the relevant hour and the second said dial being separated into twelve 30° segments marked sequentially 1 to 12 to display only the relevant hours component through the use of a clockwise rotating indicator hand.

Abstract: 7899. Stewart, A., and Downie, A. April 1. Air supply, regulating; fire-bridges.-Relates to air-supply regulating devices of the kind in which the opening of the furnace door operates a damper at the rear of the ash-pit for admitting air through a hollow fire-bridge to the furnace, the closing of the damper being controlled by a piston working in a cylinder connected to a reservoir, and consists in the special means adopted for actuating the damper and piston. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the lower end of the door spindle i is provided with a bevel-wheel j gearing with a bevel-wheel k loosely mounted on a shaft l. Upon opening the door, a pin m on the bevel-wheel k engages with a pin n on the shaft l, which is rotated. Motion of the shaft l is communicated through the lever x and rod f to the damper e, admitting air to the hollow fire-bridge, which is provided at the top with bars c or a perforated cover. At the same time, the rod v, piston-rod o , and piston o are raised, and water or other fluid enters the cylinder o from the reservoir p. When the furnace door is closed, the wheel k turns freely on the shaft l, and water flows from the cylinder o through the duct s to the reservoir p, thus allowing the piston, pistonrod, and rod v to descend and gradually close the damper. Instead of employing a cylinder and reservoir for each furnace door, a cylinder for each door and one common reservoir may be employed.

Abstract: 23,016. Stewart, A. Nov. 9. Riveting. -Electro - magnets for holding up rivets &c. are constructed with concentric cores movable in the direction of the magnetic flux so as to adapt their faces to a rivet which the magnet is to hold up on any irregular structure, the parts of which are to be riveted together. Between the concentric core A, A', Fig. 1, and outer shell B is placed the exciting - coil C, the iron sections being held together by the transverse bolt D, permitting vertical movement, and having their bearing-surfaces machined to reduce friction. The inner core may be held to the outer shell by means of a longitudinal bolt. In a modification, Fig. 3, for holding up rivets, the central core is free to move within the coil C inside the outer shell, the magnetic circuit being completed through the plate D in which is the rivet F. The core may be recessed to take a standard snap for riveting.
