A mixture of a polyester or a polyamide, such as poly(ethylene terephthalate) PET, and a suitable stabilizer selected from the group consisting of certain Mannich base compounds, when extrusion compounded exhibits a lower residual acetaldehyde content than does PET or polyamide alone when similarly treated. The invention pertains to any polyester or polyamide used in the manufacture of molded articles, fibers or films, for instance bottles or containers which are used to store consumer materials, for example food, beverages and water.

Certain piperidine compounds having the formula (I) are used to protect natural or synthetic, organic or inorganic pigments or pigment mixtures in natural or synthetic polymer or prepolymer substrates against the negative effects of heat and/or light on light-fastness or colour stability, in particular against colour changes or light-induced discoloration. In the formula (I), R1 stands for hydrogen, hydroxyl, low-molecular alkyl, low-molecular alkoxy or acyl; R2 stands for a rest of aromatic character with one or two cores and optional substituents; R3 stands for oxygen, -NH- or -N(C1-4-alkyl)-; and all R8 independently represent hydrogen or methyl. Also disclosed is a master batch composition with at least one piperidine compound of formula (I), optionally at least one inorganic or organic pigment and a natural or synthetic material that is identical to or compatible with the natural or synthetic polymer or prepolymer substrate that is to be pigmented. In reciprocating pistons, in particular made of light metal, for internal combustion engines, and having in the piston head a closed cooling oil ring-shaped channel with an inlet and at least one outlet, the cooling oil is sprayed from the crankcase into the inlet of the cooling oil ring-shaped channel as a slanted free oil stream in relation to the piston axis. The inlet and outlet are positioned and sized for high stresses. The present invention relates to a stabilizer composition comprising a) at least one sterically hindered phenol, b) at least one phosphorus-containing secondary antioxidant, and c) at least one tocopherol compound wherein the weight ratio of component (a) to component (b) is from 2:1 to 1:4 and the weight ratio of component (a) to component (c) is from 2:1 to 10:1 for the stabilization of polyethylene-based thermoplastic polymers against degradation, cross-linking and/or discoloration due to the exposure to heat or light, especially in the presence of oxygen. A further aspect of the present invention is a masterbatch composition comprising the aforesaid stabilizer composition. A process for producing the stabilizer composition is similarly an object of the invention. The present invention also provides a method for enhancing the processing stability of polyethylene-based thermoplastic polymers comprising incorporating therein at any convenient stage of the processing a stabilizing quantity of the aforementioned stabilizer composition. The invention further embraces a stabilized polyethylene-based thermoplastic polymer and any article manufactured therefrom.
