Abstract:
Stereoscopic viewing systems may be adjusted for a user's inter-pupillary distance (IPD). Software-generated calibration images may be presented on a display having two optics. One or more settings for presentation of the calibration image are adjusted. The settings are related to an inter-pupillary distance (IPD) of the user. An input is received from a user when the user perceives the calibration image to be acceptable at a particular value of the one or more settings. An IPD value that corresponds to the particular value of the one or more settings is then determined. The determined IPD value is used in presenting subsequent software-generated images with the stereoscopic display.
Abstract:
User-generated recordings of skeletal animations are provided. Information is stored in a memory regarding a plurality of animated movements in memory. Each animated movement may be mapped to one or more skeletal-based body parts of a game character. A recording of a plurality of user movements may be captured over a period of time. One or more body parts of the user may be identified for each captured user movement. It may then be determined which skeletal-based body parts correspond to the identified body parts of the user. A custom animation may be generated that comprises a plurality of animated movements in which the determined skeletal-based body parts are mapped to the associated animated movement. The custom animation may be stored in memory and played during play of a game as designated by the user.
Abstract:
A home screen display unit arranges and displays a plurality of content icons indicating a plurality of pieces of content in a first area in a content zone screen. If a specific content icon is focused on by the cursor and if a preset determination operation is performed, a content playback unit starts playback of the content indicated by the focused icon. If a specific content icon is focused on by the cursor, a related information acquiring unit acquires related information relating to the content that is indicated by the focused icon from the external device without starting playback of the content. A home screen display unit displays the acquired related information in a second area of the content zone screen and displays, if related information is updated, the updated related information in the second area so as to replace the related information displayed until that moment.
Abstract:
Ambient light control and calibration systems and methods are provided herein. According to some embodiments, exemplary systems may include a console that includes a processor that executes logic to control a plurality of nodes to reproduce a virtual lighting scheme of a virtual environment in a physical user environment. Additionally, the system may include a plurality of nodes that each includes a light emitting device, a receiver that communicatively couples the node to the console, and a processor that executes logic to control the light emitting device.
Abstract:
A detector located on or near an ear piece may automatically detect whether a left or right ear or neither ear is wearing the ear piece. A signal mixer may automatically apply a correct configuration to signals transmitted to or from the ear piece according to whether the left or right ear or neither ear is determined to be wearing the ear piece. It is emphasized that this abstract is provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract that will allow a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure. It is submitted with the understanding that it will not be used to interpret or limit the scope or meaning of the claims.
Abstract:
Methods, systems, and computer programs are presented for detecting inputs for a computing device. One method includes an operation for receiving images for an area where the hand of a user is situated, and an operation for analyzing the received images to determine the location and the color of a finger of the user. Further, a change in the color of the finger is detected (fingernail 308,310,312 or fingertip 322), where the change in the color is caused by contact of the finger with a physical object. In other operation, the method determines the location of the finger when the color change was detected. The determined location is associated with an input for the computing device.
Abstract:
A method for providing directional input to a video game is provided. The method initiates with capturing an image of a first object and a second object, the first object and the second object being defined at a fixed distance from each other. A three-dimensional location of the first object is determined based on analysis of the captured image, and a two-dimensional location of the second object is determined based on analysis of the captured image. An input direction for a video game is determined based on the three-dimensional location of the first object and the two-dimensional location of the second object.
Abstract:
Systems and methods incorporating an embedded sensor in a control stick to detect the presence of an object, such as a thumb. A presence detect signal may be generated by the additional sensor and auto calibration logic then may automatically remove bias from the control stick in real time when the presence detect signal indicates the control stick not under the influence of a force external to the controller, and therefore at its neutral mechanical position. In further embodiments, a plurality of embedded sensors are arrayed across an exterior surface of a control stick to provide a second control stick-based positional input device. In such embodiments, tactile or proximity sensor technology may be applied to improve precision of first positional information generated by the control stick or to control a coordinate space separate from that controlled by first position information provided by the control stick.
Abstract:
Methods for establishing a location-based leaderboard by a computer game system are disclosed. The world may be partitioned into a set of regions and sub-regions by the computer game system using a hierarchical spatial data structure. The regions and sub-regions are arranged according to a hierarchy, each sub-region being encompassed by a higher-level sub-region or region, and two or more highest-level sub-regions being encompassed by a region. A location of a system user and one or more user statistics may be assigned to a smallest sub-region of the spatial data structure. A user rank may then be determined within a region or sub-region encompassing the smallest sub-region to which the user's location was assigned. The rank is determined using the statistics associated with the user. Users may then be notified of the rank.
Abstract:
Methods, computer programs, and systems for interfacing a user with a computer program, utilizing gaze detection and voice recognition, are provided. One method includes an operation for determining if a gaze of a user is directed towards a target associated with the computer program. The computer program is set to operate in a first state when the gaze is determined to be on the target, and set to operate in a second state when the gaze is determined to be away from the target. When operating in the first state, the computer program processes voice commands from the user, and, when operating in the second state, the computer program omits processing of voice commands.
