Abstract:
A thermoplastic polymer alloy compositions including a blend of polymers that each contribute beneficial properties to the compositions. The compositions exhibit characteristics desirable for outdoor applications such as weatherability, impact resistance and durability, while offering excellent surface appearance. The compositions are particularly suitable for decking applications and as capstock materials.
Abstract:
Halogen free flame retardant thermoplastic elastomer compositions including a hydrogenated styrenic block copolymer having relatively high styrene or mono alkenyl arene content and styrene or mono alkenyl arene in each block. Surprisingly, the compositions contain low amounts or are free of plasticizing softeners. The compositions include a blend of non-halogen flame retardants including a liquid phosphorous-containing component and a solid secondary component. The compositions are suitable for extrusion or molding and are useful for films or wire and cable applications.
Abstract:
Thermoplastic elastomer compositions, in particular derived from one or more styrenic block copolymers wherein at least one styrenic block copolymer comprises a controlled distribution copolymer block including a conjugated diene and a mono alkenyl arene, a plurality of biorenewable materials, preferably a softener and one or more synergistic additives such as a polar polymer; a synergistic block copolymer such as a relatively high molecular weight styrenic block copolymer; and/or filler. Numerous desirable articles can be formed from the compositions. Processes for preparing the compositions and articles are disclosed.
Abstract:
An adhesive system including a synergistic combination of a light curable silicone-containing adhesive composition and an amine-containing primer composition that provides desirable bond strength between two articles preferably one of the articles including a polyolefin or polyolefin-based thermoplastic elastomer. Methods of connecting articles, preferably those utilized in fluid transfer applications, utilizing the adhesive system and the resulting adhered assemblies are disclosed.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process for recovering individual polymers, such as nylon and polyolefin, from a nylon-containing source such as a carpet. The process includes the steps of shredding a nylon fiber source such as a carpet wherein the shredding is conducted in the presence of a liquid that wets the carpet, granulating the wet shredded carpet slurry, further diluting the granulated slurry by adding additional water, subsequently refining the fibers and removing substantial amounts of polypropylene fibers from the slurry, preferably using a lamella clarifier, and recovering the nylon fibers by hydrocloning the slurry.
Abstract:
There is provided a polylactic acid resin composition having elevated impact resistance and/or elevated heat deflection temperature, the composition comprising polylactic acid as a major phase. There is also provided an article made of this composition and a masterbatch for producing this composition through dilution with polylactic acid. Finally, there is also provided a process for making such a composition, the process comprising the step of compounding together the following ingredients: polylactic acid, a mineral filler, a chain mobility additive, optionally an impact modifier, and optionally a chain extender, thereby producing the resin composition.
Abstract:
Thermoplastic elastomer compositions having a desirable soft touch feel to skin, and in particular grip, especially during wet, soapy and humid conditions. In one embodiment, the composition is part of a composite system, wherein the composition is connected, for example molded, overmolded or co-extruded to a substrate, such as a thermoplastic, glass or metal. The compositions and composites are suitable for use wherever desirable feel and grip are needed, such as handles or grips of household or industrial items.
Abstract:
Flame retardant polymeric blend compositions including a synergistic combination of flame retardants, including a halogenated flame retardant and a nanoparticulate, such as an organically modified clay or a natural nanoclay. The compositions are thermoplastic elastomers, include a polyolefin and a styrenic block copolymer, and exhibit high char formation upon burning as well as desirable vertical burn characteristics. In a preferred embodiment, the flame retardants include at least a halogenated flame retardant and a metal oxide.
