An open-topped moulded plastics container having tapered walls facilitating nesting may be reversed end-for-end to enable one container to be stacked on another, means being provided to prevent lateral displacement of stacked containers. When stacked, an upper-container rests on triangular ledges 8, 9, formed on a bayed end wall 5 and on a half-hexagonal ledge (10), Fig. 3 (not shown), in the other end wall 6. The upper rim of the container has a stepped flange 11. Projections 13 on the end walls engage the flange 11 of the lower container to prevent wedging of an upper container when nested therein.

    Abstract: 1,116,049. Plastics containers. CHARLES TENNANT & CO. Ltd., and J. D. L. DIXON. 3 March, 1966 [12 Dec., 1964], No. 50701/64. Heading B8P. A stackable plastics container is made by moulding a hollow closed box and cutting the top of the box peripherally to provide access. The top may be partially out to provide an integral hinged lid or completely to provide an open-topped container. In a particular embodiment a fish-box, Figs. 1 and 4 (not shown), has a hinged lid (5) closing a necked opening surrounded by sloping shoulders (7) with drain channels (14), into which fit ribs (15) on a ridge (12) surrounding the recessed bottom of a similar container when stacked. The ribs (15) have drain holes so that water from the top container will flow through the channels (14) over the sides of the lower container. The ribs (15) may be on the shoulders (7) and the channels (14) on the bottom ridge (12). Recesses (17) with apertures (18) are provided in the end walls to facilitate handling.
