Abstract:
Novel Haemophilus somnus immunogenic proteins are disclosed. The proteins can be used in vaccine compositions for the prevention and treatment of H. somnus infections. The proteins are conveniently produced using recombinant technology.
Abstract:
Assembled viral particles derived from rotavirus proteins are disclosed. The assembled particles include the inner capsid protein, VP6, in combination with either or both of the outer capsid proteins, VP4 and VP7. These assemblies can be used in vaccine compositions for the treatment and prevention of rotaviral disease.
Abstract:
Compositions and methods for preparing and delivering encapsulated biologically active agents to specific cell types are disclosed. Substances can be encapsulated in the VP6 inner capsid protein of rotavirus and delivered to selected cells, tissues and organs. Targeting agents can be linked to the surface of the VP6 sphere so that appropriate agents can be delivered to preselected cells and tissue types.
Abstract:
Abstract:
In one embodiment, the present invention relates to novel bovine adenovirus expression vector systems which utilize the following regions of the bovine adenovirus genome: nucleotides 4,092-5,234; nucleotides 5,892-17,735; nucleotides 21,198-26,033 and nucleotides 31,133-34,445. These regions can be used, among other things, for insertion of foreign sequences, for provision of DNA control sequences including transcriptional and translational regulatory sequences, or for diagnostic purposes to detect the presence of viral nucleic acids or proteins encoded by these regions, in a subject or biological sample. In another embodiment, the present invention relates to novel methods for the construction, isolation and propagation of recombinant bovine adenovirus (BAV) with deletions (and optionally insertions of heterologous sequence) in the E3 region. Recombinant BAV containing insertions of genes encoding protective determinants of a pathogen stimulate enhanced systemic and mucosal immune responses and protect host animals against challenge by the pathogen.
Abstract:
The present invention provides modified bovine adenoviruses comprising a modification in a capsid protein wherein said protein is associated with adenovirus tropism and wherein said modification is associated with altered tropism. The present invention provides adenovirus vectors and host cells comprising such vectors. The present invention also provides methods of making and using such adenoviruses.
Abstract:
Novel vaccines for use against Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae are disclosed. The vaccines contain at least one A. pleuropneumoniae transferrin binding protein and/or one A. pleuropneumoniae cytolysin and/or one A. pleuropneumoniae APP4. Also disclosed are DNA sequences encoding these proteins, vectors including these sequences and host cells transformed with these vectors. The vaccines can be used to treat or prevent porcine respiratory infections.
Abstract:
The CAMP factor gen of Streptococcus uberis (S. uberis) is described, as well as the recombinant production of CAMP factor therefrom. CAMP factors can be used in vaccine compositions for the prevention and treatment of bacterial infections.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a kit for the measurement of anion, cation or zwitterion availability in a medium or for the measurement of free inorganic ions in disrupted cells from plant or animal tissue. The kit comprises ion-exchange material having a measurable ion uptake potential for immobilizing available ions from the medium on the material following contact on the material with the medium or suspension. It also comprises means to remove particulate solids from the material after having contacted the medium with the material. Preferably, the ion-exchange material is cation and/or anion-exchange material in the form of rigid or flexible films, sheets, membranes or the like. The invention also relates to a method for the on-site in situ measurement of anion and/or cation availability in a solid medium and to a method for measuring free organic ions in cells from plant or animal tissue. It also relates to ion-exchange material for immobilizing available ions in soil, sediment or water media and to a cation and/or anion-exchange membrane buried underneath the surface of a soil sample or site, the membrane being in ion-exchange relationship with available ions in the soil. The present invention represents an improvement over the prior art in that it provides means for quickly determining ion availability in a particular media without the necessity of collecting media samples for laboratory testing.
