Abstract: 549,652. Wire ropes. WICKWIRE SPENCER STEEL CO. June 12, 1941, No. 7452. Convention date, June 12, 1940. Drawings to Specification. [Class 109] The load-carrying portion of a stranded wire rope, suitable as a drilling line for use in drilling operations in deep wells, is composed of preformed strands laid up on a hempen or metallic core. The strands of the lower portion are ordinary, i.e. unpreformed, so that the rope is sufficiently elastic to whip the drilling tools on and off the bottom of the bore hole. An intermediate portion of the rope may have successive lengths preformed to different degrees.

Abstract: 333,751. Forrester, H. J. C., (Wickwire Spencer Steel Co.). Aug. 26, 1929. Flat endless - belt conveyers.-A belt is formed of a plurality of transverse interlaced spiral wire members 10, the ends of which are bent upwards to provide flanges 11 of substantial height. The belt and flanges are strengthened by crossrods 12 inserted in and between the coils of each successive pair of spiral members. The ends of the members 10 may be folded to form a selvage of double thickness, and when the belt is used in an inverted position, wearing shoes are secured about the U-shaped edge of the double selvage portion.
