Abstract: The present invention relates to a composition for preventing and treating inflammatory diseases or allergic diseases containing a complex herbal extract containing Xanthium strumarium L., Trichosanthes fructus, Angelica dahurica root, and Mentha arvensis var. piperascens as active ingredients. The extract of the present invention controls the generation of NO and cytokine (TNF-alpha, IL-1) secreted from macrophagocyte after LPS stimulation, and has anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, and anti-rhinitis effects controlling the generation of IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13 secreted from spleen cells and the reduction of serum IgE concentration in a rhinitis animal model induced by ovalbumin, thereby being applied to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating inflammatory diseases or allergic diseases.
