Abstract: PURPOSE: A polarizing unit for measuring a photoelastic fringe is provided to continuously measure an isochromatic fringe order in a uniform isoclinic line and to measure an isoclinic fringe and an isochromatic fringe by using a 4-step or an 8-step phase shift method. CONSTITUTION: A polarizing unit(100) includes a first driving section(20), a second driving section(30), a connection section(40), and a control unit(10). The first driving section(20) has a first stepping motor(22) for directly rotating an analyzer(8) or simultaneously rotating the analyzer(8) and a polarizing plate(2). The second driving section(30) has a second stepping motor(32) for directly rotating a secondary 4-partition plate(6) or simultaneously rotates a primary 4-partition plate(6) and the secondary 4-partition plate(6). The first driving section(20) is selectively connected to the second driving section(30) by mean of the connection section(40).
