Abstract: An extract of Ailanthus altissima is provided to show high polyphenol content, excellent electron donating capability, SOD like activity, nitrite scavenging capability, xanthine oxidase inhibiting capability and tyrosinase inhibiting capability, thereby being usefully used as a pharmaceutical composition and a health functional food such as tablet, capsule or pill for preventing and treating oxidation related diseases. A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating oxidation related diseases comprises 0.1-50 wt.% of an extract of Ailanthus altissima as an effective ingredient, wherein the extract is obtained by extracting roots, stems or leaves of the Ailanthus altissima with water, C1-4 alcohol, or a mixture solvent thereof.

Abstract: An extract of Vitex rotundifolia L. is provided to have high polyphenol content and show excellent electron donating ability, SOD-like activity, nitrite scavenging capability, xanthine oxidase inhibitory ability and tyrosinase inhibitory ability, thereby being usefully used as a skin aging preventing and skin whitening cosmetic composition. A cosmetic composition for preventing skin aging and whitening comprises an extract of Vitex rotundifolia L. as an effective ingredient, wherein the extract is obtained by extracting seeds or stems with water, C1-4 alcohol, a mixture of water and C1-4 alcohol, propylene glycol, ethyl acetate, butylene glycol, ether or chloroform. Further, the cosmetic composition for preventing skin aging and whitening is a form selected from cosmetic water(skin), cream, emulsion, essence, pack, spray and foundation.
