Abstract: PURPOSE: A method and a device for managing IMSI(International Mobile Subscriber Identity) information in a mobile communication system, are provided to manage the IMSI information by the unit of nibble, so that capacity of an IMSI-related memory used for purge function can be reduced to 50%. And the method and the device are provided to process the IMSI information a long type rather than a character arrangement type. CONSTITUTION: A purge management task waits message receiving(301). If a message is received, the purge management task decides whether the message is a purge registration request message(303). If so, the purge management task converts an IMSI by the unit of nibble, and registers corresponding subscriber information in an STL(Standard Template Library) table with the converted IMSI as a key value(319), then the step '301' is returned. If the received message is not a purge registration request message, the purge management task decides whether the received message is a purge cancellation message(305). If so, the purge management task converts an IMSI by the unit of nibble, and searches to delete a corresponding subscriber in the STL table with the converted IMSI as a key value(321), then the step '301' is returned. If the message is not a purge cancellation message, the purge management task decides whether the message is a timeout message(307). If so, the purge management task searches a first subscriber purge-registered in the STL table(309), and if not, the purge management task performs error processing. The purge management task reduces a counter of the searched subscriber as much as a set value(311), and checks whether the subscriber is a last subscriber for which purge is registered(313). If so, the purge management task checks whether the counter corresponding to the subscriber is a predetermined minimum value(315). If so, the purge management task requests the deletion of information on the subscriber to a mobility management task by converting the nibble-unit IMSI into digits used in a system(325). If the counter is not the predetermined minimum value, the purge management task searches a next subscriber(317), then the step '311' is returned.

CONSTITUTION: A mobility management task(201) generates a timeout message when a set timer is ended. A database stores information of purge-registered subscribers. A purge management task(203) reduces a counter value for all purge-registered subscribers registered in the database by a predetermined unit value, if the timeout message is received. And the purge management task(203) searches a subscriber for whom the reduced counter value is a predetermined minimum value, to request the deletion of information on the searched subscriber to the mobility management task(201). And an interface handler task(202) performs interface between the mobility management task(201) and the purge management task(203).
