Abstract: A method for preventing a ping pong phenomenon in a mobile communication system is provided to prevent frequent handover from occurring by making an MS(Mobile Station) not perform the handover while a Tping-pong timer is being driven. A method for preventing a ping pong phenomenon in a mobile communication system comprises the following several steps. An MS determines handover from a current serving BS to other BS if a preset handover condition is satisfied(302). The MS selects a target BS to which the MS performs the handover(304). After finishing the handover, the MS performs a procedure for reentering the target BS and a network(306). After finishing reentering the target BS and a network, the MS drives a Tping-pong timer(308). The MS finishes driving the Tping-pong timer(310). While driving the Tping-pong timer, the MS does not perform the handover to other BS.
