PURPOSE: A digital broadcast receiver and a processing method thereof are provided to receive and process a stream including plural turbo streams. CONSTITUTION: A decoding unit(410) receives the transmission stream included in the normal data stream and additional data streams, and decodes the transmission stream. An equalization unit(420) equalizes the transmission streams. A viterbi decoding unit(430) decodes the normal data stream among the equalized transmission streams, and a trellis decoding unit(440) and a turbo decoding unit(450) decodes at least one among the plural additional data streams included in the equalized transmission streams.

PURPOSE: A digital broadcasting transmitter and a stream processing method thereof are provided to insert a stuff byte into a MPEG-2 transport stream packet and replace the inserted stuff byte with known data. CONSTITUTION: An RS(Reed-Solomon) encoder(630) encodes a stream including known data. An interleaver(640) interleaves the encoded stream. A trellis encoder(650) performs trellis encoding of the interleaved stream. The trellis encoder resets internal memories in an initialization byte part included within the stream. If at least a part of the stream is changed by the reset of the internal memories, a RS parity generator(660) corrects parity corresponding to the changed part.

A stream processing apparatus for transceiving and processing streams coded at the 1/3 coding rate, and methods therefor are provided to insert additional data by utilizing the payload region of a packet to generate the streams. A adaptor part(110) receives raw data and then generates a stream consisting of a plurality of packets, and prepares an adaptive field in some of the packets. In the meantime, so that additional data can be inserted into some of the packets, the adaptor part defines a packet having the new PID to generate a stream including the defined packet. An insertion part(120) inserts additional data into the whole payload region of some of packets in which the adaptive field is not prepared among packets within the stream generated in the adaptor part.

The N/R demultiplexer(207a) separates a normal stream and a robust stream from a dual TS. The robust encoder(207b) adds the separated robust stream to a parity.
