Abstract: A portable terminal for forming the display hue of a menu screen using the color information of an image and a method thereof are provided to present an environment to implement a peculiar menu hue, to simplify a complicated process of hue selection, and to express each user's individuality by configuring the hue of a menu screen using a stored image. A portable terminal for forming the display hue of a menu screen using the color information of an image comprises a camera module(201), a memory(209), an image processing part(202), a display part(203), and a control part(210). The camera module(201) photographs images. The memory(209) stores the images photographed at the camera module(201). If an image to configure the display hue of the menu screen is selected among the stored images, the image processing part(202) determines a hue to display the menu screen using the color information of the selected image. The display part(203) displays the menu screen with the determined hue. The control part(210) changes the color model of the selected color into an HSI(Hue,Saturation,Intensity) color model, extracts hue values, carries out mapping for the extracted hue values, measures the distribution ratio of the mapped hue values, and decides the priority order of the hues. The control part(210) combines display hues for the menu screen according to the priority order of the hues, analyzes the contrast of the combined hues, and determines the final display hue of the menu screen.
