Abstract: PURPOSE: A WDM(Wavelength Division Multiplexed)-PON(Passive Optical Network) protection/recovery apparatus and a method thereof are provided to offer a basic protection/recovery function by duplicating a trunk line that all ONTs use in common. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of ONTs(Optical Network Terminals)(310,320) are connected to an OLT(Optical Line Terminal)(100) through RNs(Remote Nodes)(210,220). All the portions to be used in common in order to add a protection/recovery function to all the ONTs(310,320) are duplicated. Optical switches(111,121) and recovery paths are added to protection paths. As the protection paths or the recovery paths are selected through the optical switches(111,121), the protection/recovery function can be executed according to the request of the ONTs(310,320).
