Abstract:
An apparatus and a method for hierarchical modulation are provided to improve reception performance without affecting a basic layer by inserting a pilot into an additional layer. A basic hierarchical channel encoder(110) generates a basic layer symbol string by encoding the basic layer signal string. A basic hierarchical modulation unit of a hierarchical modulation unit(150) generates the basic hierarchical modulation symbol string by modulating the base hierarchical symbol string. An additional hierarchical channel encoder(120) generates the additional hierarchical symbol string by encoding the additional hierarchical signal string. A pilot insertion unit(130) generates a pilot insertion symbol string by inserting the pilot to the addition hierarchical symbol string. The additional hierarchical modulation unit of the hierarchical modulation unit generates the additional hierarchical modulation symbol string by modulating the pilot insertion symbol string. The symbol mapping unit generates the hierarchical modulation signal by mapping the basic hierarchical modulation symbol string and the additional hierarchical symbol string to a signal space. A normalization unit normalizes the hierarchical modulation signal and generates the normalized hierarchical modulation signal.

A transmission method of a digital broadcasting signal is provided to offer a various high quality service by supplying broadcasting service with higher data transmitting rate than conventional digital broadcasting. A first frame including the first service stream for restoring the service of the first quality is produced(S220). A second frame including the second service stream for restoring the service of the second quality higher than the first quality in addition to the first service stream is produced(S230). The first and the second frame are modulated to the first layer and the second layer(S240). A first transmission frame and the second transmission frame of the enhancement layer are transmitted(S250).

A method and an apparatus for receiving a broadcasting signal through a digital multimedia broadcasting network are provided to improve sensitivity of an OFDM receiver by removing an IFFT(Inverse Fast Fourier Transform) unit in the OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) receiver. An apparatus for receiving a broadcasting signal through a digital multimedia broadcasting network includes a correlation value generator(44), a frame synchronization estimator(45), a gain estimator(46), and a symbol timing offset unit(47). The correlation value generator correlates a synchronization signal, which is included in a time domain reception signal, with a reference signal, and generates a correlation value in the time domain. The frame synchronization estimator compares the time domain correlation value with a reference value. The gain estimator determines a gain based on the time domain correlation value. The symbol timing offset unit detects a sample index of the correlation value with the determined gain.
Abstract:
An apparatus and a method for estimating a frequency offset improve reception performance of a mobile communication system and reduce complexity of the system by estimating interval of a subcarrier up to integral number or prime number times. A first correlative value is calculated by correlating the received signal with a signal of a first block corresponding to a part of a protective section of a reference symbol included in the received signal. A second correlative value is calculated by correlating the received signal with a signal of a second block corresponding to a part of a protective section. The first correlative value is time-delayed(S540). The frequency offset is estimated by using the delayed first and second correlative values.
Abstract:
A method and an apparatus for channel equalization are provided to prevent a noise from being amplified by decreasing a variance of a channel equalization signal. A channel estimation apparatus includes a channel interpolator(41), a mapper(42), and an equalizer(43). The channel interpolator delivers an estimated channel coefficient for a sub-carrier of a symbol to the equalizer. The mapper delivers the estimated basic layer symbol to the equalizer. The equalizer equalizes the channel by using the received symbol, the channel coefficient received from the channel interpolator, and the basic layer symbol received from the mapper.

PURPOSE: A broadcasting service providing method of a broadcasting signal transceiving apparatus is provided to transmit integrated EPG information including physical channel information though an additionally secured improved layer. CONSTITUTION: A broadcasting signal receiving apparatus receives integrated EPG(Electronic Program Guide) information with the selection of an integrated EPG channel(S1110). The broadcasting signal receiving apparatus extracts the physical channel information of each frequency block within a corresponding broadcasting frequency with the analysis of the integrated EPG information(S1120,S1130). If a user selects a special channel, the broadcasting signal receiving apparatus moves to a channel within a corresponding frequency block with the extracted physical channel information(S1140,S1150). The broadcasting signal receiving apparatus extracts a broadcasting service from a corresponding channel(S1160).

PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method of channel estimation and equalization are provided to improve data reception performance are provided to equalize fast Fourier transformed signal by estimated channel of the second channel estimation module in the first estimation module again, thereby improving receiving ability of data. CONSTITUTION: An equalization module(310) equalizes an FFT(Fast Fourier Transform)-performed signal by a former channel. A first channel estimation module(320) presumes a channel for an OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) symbol of a currently received signal by an output signal of the first equalization module. A second equalization module(330) equalizes a received signal by a transmission channel about an estimated current OFDM symbol. A signal extraction module(340) extracts an enhancement layer signal based on an output signal of the second equalization module.
